Emergency Medicine Opportunity – Wiarton Site
Brightshores Health System (Brightshores) is a dynamic, multi-site hospital corporation serving communities across Grey and Bruce counties in southwestern Ontario. We operate six hospitals, including our Level 2 Regional Referral Hospital in Owen Sound, and five rural sites located in Lion’s Head, Markdale, Meaford, Southampton, and Wiarton.

Brightshores provides a full range of specialty services through departments including Anaesthesiology, Medical Imaging, Obstetrics/Gynecology, Oncology, Internal Medicine, Hospitalist Medicine, Pathology, Paediatrics, Psychiatry, and Surgery (ENT, General Surgery, Ophthalmology, Orthopaedics, and Urology).

Our catchment area includes over 170,000 residents and more than 2 million annual visitors , offering diverse clinical opportunities in a supportive rural setting.

About Wiarton Hospital
Located at the base of the Bruce Peninsula, Wiarton Hospital is a vital rural facility serving local residents and the Chippewas of Nawash Unceded First Nation , as well as seasonal visitors to the area. The hospital plays a key role in delivering culturally safe, patient-centred care to its surrounding communities.

Key Features:

15,502 Emergency Department visits annually (~42 per day; significantly higher in summer)

Core services include: Emergency Department, Inpatient Care (Acute + CCC), Family Practice, Long-Term Care, Palliative Care, Home Visits, Indigenous Health Programs, Medical Education & Teaching

Wiarton Hospital is closely connected to both primary care and community-based services, including ongoing collaboration with local Indigenous health partners.

Brightshores Health System is expanding its Rural Emergency Medicine physician group and is currently seeking physicians to join the team at Wiarton Hospital .

Requirements

ED experience and ACLS, PALS certifications.

Applicable CCFP, CCFP-EM or RCPSC designation.

Independent license to practice in Ontario.

Compensation
Emergency Department Alternate Funding Agreement(s) with applicable hourly rates and related billings.
