Overview An externship experience at an NVA hospital will give students the unique opportunity to understand the day‑to‑day operations of the practice, and to gain valuable hands‑on clinical experience. Although each NVA hospital is unique, all share a supportive setting that is committed to excellent medicine and provides exceptional service to animals and the people who love them.
Responsibilities Students will work closely with supervising Associate Veterinarians to:
Gather patient histories and perform physical examinations
Create treatment plans, conduct diagnostics, and provide dentistry services
Observe, assist or perform surgical procedures
Manage patients medically
Practice communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients
Program Details Externship duration ranges from two to eight weeks depending on student and hospital schedules
Externships at Beattie Pet Hospital – Brantford are designed for clinical‑year students
Veterinary students in the clinical portion of their education are eligible for a travel/living expense stipend
