Overview An externship experience at an NVA hospital will give veterinary students the prospect to understand day‑to‑day operations of the practice and to gain valuable hands‑on clinical experience. Each NVA hospital is unique, but all share a supportive environment, a commitment to excellent medicine, and exceptional service to animals and the people who love them.
Responsibilities Collaborate with supervising veterinarian to gather patient histories
Perform physical exams and create treatment plans
Conduct diagnostics, dentistry services, and assist or perform surgical procedures
Manage patient records and medical management of patients
Practice communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients
Eligibility Only 3rd and 4th year veterinary students are eligible for externship experiences.
Stipend Veterinary students in the clinical portion of their education are eligible for a travel/living expense stipend. For stipend amounts and details, please refer to the stipend program information.
