About the Role
The Occupational Therapist (OT) provides assessment, treatment, education, and referral services to help clients improve and maintain their independence and quality of life. Working within professional standards and best practices, the OT supports individuals in reaching their highest level of functioning within publicly funded health services.

Reporting to the Territorial Manager, Occupational Therapy, the OT manages an independent and varied caseload that includes children, adults, and seniors experiencing developmental, physical, cognitive, or mental health challenges. Services are provided in a range of settings, including hospital, outpatient clinics, schools, homes,



and community environments, with opportunities to travel to smaller communities to ensure residents across the region have access to care.

While this Occupational Therapist role provides services across the lifespan, the position includes a significant pediatric focus, particularly in school, home, and community-based programs through the Child Development Team in Yellowknife.

Key Responsibilities

Provide assessment, treatment, and intervention for children and adults across hospital, clinic, school, home, and community settings.

Develop and implement individualized, evidence-based treatment plans to support independence and daily functioning.

Prescribe or adapt orthoses and assistive devices and recommend environmental modifications as needed.

Educate and collaborate with clients, families, and interdisciplinary team members, including outreach to smaller communities.

Promote culturally secure, trauma-informed care while participating in program development and maintaining safe clinical practice.

Key Qualifications

Experience providing assessment and treatment across the lifespan.

Ability to prescribe or fabricate orthoses and recommend assistive devices.





Strong clinical judgment, independent caseload management, communication, and teamwork skills with a commitment to culturally safe practice.

This level of knowledge is typically acquired through the successful completion of a master’s degree in Occupational Therapy.

Additional Requirements
Provisional professional licensure in any Canadian province and full licensure within six months of hire.

Graduation from a recognized Occupational Therapy program and successful completion of the certification exam within a reasonable time frame.

Practicing member of CAOT.

Proof of immunization in keeping with current public health practices.

Completion of required certifications upon hire (e.g., Indigenous Cultural Awareness, WHMIS, Infection Control, etc.).
