Hours: 37.5 per week

Status: Temporary Full-time (one year contract with possibility of renewal)

Position Summary
The Research Technician II will report to the Principal Investigator of a research program focused on preclinical models of epilepsy in the Krembil Discovery Tower, University Health Network. The mission of this program is to characterize animal models of epilepsy,



including post‑traumatic epilepsy and various genetic epilepsies, to gain a better understanding of mechanisms involved in the development of epilepsy and develop therapeutic strategies to prevent epilepsy.

Duties
Perform rodent stereotaxic surgeries including traumatic brain injury model, intracranial electrode implantation
Brain collection, tissue dissection
Rodent EEG hook‑ups, data collection
Construct rodent EEG, EMG electrodes
Rodent behavioural testing
Manage animal use protocols and renewals

Qualifications
At minimum, Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience, required
At minimum, 6 months related experience, required
Lab experience an asset
Experience in rodent stereotaxic brain surgeries, rodent injections (ip, sc, im)
Experience in rodent brain collection and tissue dissection
Experience in rodent behavioural testing (open field, Barnes maze, cylinder, etc)
Experience in Western blots, immunohistochemistry, ELISAs
Experience with lab management, ordering supplies, managing animal care and other protocols
Excellent verbal and written communication skills (English)
Excellent organizational and time management skills
Ability to work independently but also function as part of a team




Good problem‑solving skills
Good record‑keeping skills
