What is the Opportunity?
We are seeking a seasoned business professional to lead Business Development growth activities for Aecon Industrial in Eastern Canada. As a strategic lead, you will play a pivotal role in driving the growth of the business with a key focus on developing opportunities with new clients in the mining, oil and gas, petrochemical, and industrial manufacturing markets. The role is responsible for identifying and securing new business opportunities, fostering and maintaining strong client relationships, and driving revenue growth in a fast‑paced, evolving environment.
Location: Based in either Etobicoke or Cambridge, ON. The role requires frequent travel across Canada and occasional travel to the United States.
What You’ll Do Here
Collaborate to develop objectives and strategies in support of overall divisional business development goals and assist in the development and implementation of the Business Unit strategic plan.
Perform market research on market size, growth potential, and market shares.
Investigate and assist in the development of new products or services.
Prepare and execute business development action plans for target markets and clients.
Monitor sales activity and market conditions and adjust the business development strategy as appropriate.
Analyze and filter potential opportunities for fit with divisional goals.
Prepare a look‑forward plan and share with the estimating group for resource planning.
Prepare and submit pre‑qualification and Expression of Interest documentation.
Develop a strategy for success on all proposals, participate in proposal preparation, and follow up with clients.
Negotiate prices and terms with or assist in negotiations with clients.
Provide advice, liaison, planning and other support to prospective and current clients.
Maintain effective contact with clients, including post‑award contact, identify new work leads and manage follow‑up.
Keep pursuit lists current in the company’s CRM platform.
Collect execution performance feedback from customers for continuous improvement initiatives.
Track and communicate competitor activity.
Conduct risk analysis, review Terms and Conditions, pre‑bid recommendation forms, and chair or attend pre‑bid and bid closing meetings.
Work closely with the “Closer” to advise on final pricing and execution strategy.
Prepare or advise on annual revenue targets and budgets and update as required.
Support marketing activities as needed to advance strategic initiatives.
What You Bring To The Team
Business Development and relationship building skills.
Knowledge of Aecon and its divisions, capabilities, and market interests.
Technical background in heavy industrial, mining, O&G;, or petrochemical sectors.
Solid negotiation skills.
Ability to report and analyze data for relevant trends.
Well‑organized, energetic, and able to work under pressure.
Independent and capable of taking discretionary initiative.
Excellent communication and presentation skills.
General computer proficiency, especially in PowerPoint, spreadsheets, and word processing.
Commercial knowledge of contract risks.
Effective in complex political situations and sensitive to cultural dynamics.
Cross‑cultural agility and awareness of Aboriginal cultures and history.
Clear and succinct written and oral communication.
Self‑starter, collaborative team player, and adaptable in dynamic environments.
Exceptional organizational skills with ability to meet multiple deadlines.
Experience with SharePoint and Microsoft Dynamics is an asset.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and other relevant software such as Illustrator.

The expected pay range for this role is $120,000 - $160,000 per year. Individual pay is determined based on factors such as work location, education, experience, unique skills, and job conditions.
