Actuarial Expert – Pricing Modelling Team
As an Actuarial Expert within the Pricing Modelling team, you will provide technical leadership in advancing Wawanesa’s loss cost and demand modelling capabilities. You will serve as a trusted voice on key modelling decisions, help shape future modelling priorities, and lead high‑impact projects that support the development of efficient, accurate, and maintainable modelling processes.
Responsibilities
- High degree of mastery over accessing, selecting, and interpreting data. Works independently. Mastery over multiple types of analytical tools. Evaluates procedures and processes, and recommend alternatives or improvements.
- Subject matter expert on valuable analytical methods Strong ability to innovate on complex projects Automates routine tasks to focus on high‑leverage work items.
- Able to design and implement robust processes that make work easier for themselves and their peers.
- Develops creative approaches to solve complex issues and assesses impacts of solution options.
- A leader in the actuarial community.
- May include teaching, volunteering, or authoring papers to advance actuarial knowledge.

- Actively contributes to the mentorship, training and development of actuarial analysts and sometimes managers.
- Creates coaching opportunities with analysts and managers to improve their technical abilities.
- Performs thoughtful and relevant peer‑review at a high level. Uses their expertise to raise the skill level of the people around them.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or other related discipline.
- More than ten years of actuarial experience an asset.
- FCAS designation is an asset.
- Advanced communicator.
- People trust the communications of an expert.
- Leaves behind useful and functional documentation on projects.
- Strong negotiator and storyteller.
- Uses graphs and data in a way that supplements their arguments.
- Persuasive with the conclusions from their work. Often presents their work to Director + level. Fully proficient with Excel, SQL, R, Python, or other specialized programs.
- Leverages the right program(s) for the job.
- Excellent problem solver. Integrates knowledge from actuarial science, math, statistics,
general business to solve advanced problems.
- Often working on the highest‑priority problems for Wawanesa.
- May offer recommendations for what are the highest‑priority problems for Wawanesa to solve.
- Others can trust that the Actuarial Expert has attended to the right details for their work.
- Attends to the right details for accuracy, reasonability, and consistency in their conclusions.
- Ability to prioritize and complete multiple concurrent assignments, both individually and as a leader of a group, in a timely manner while proactively keeping leader informed of progress.

Benefits
Salary range: $130,000 – $160,000. Eligible for an annual bonus plan, leave of absence top‑up programmes, generous vacation time, personal days, premium‑free benefits, and a pension plan.
