FLEET MAINTENANCE OPERATIONS MANAGEMENT TRAINEE
Travel is required during the training program.

I. Job Summary
The Fleet Maintenance Operations Management Trainee (FOMT) program is a 12‑month course designed to develop individuals into fleet maintenance managers. Candidates who complete the program will be ready to lead a WM Fleet Shop, manage the full fleet of primary and secondary equipment, and focus on market‑base profitability through effective fleet and maintenance management.

II. Duties And Responsibilities

Successfully complete the FOMT curriculum and all required training through WM Learning Management System.

Attend and participate in all mandatory group training sessions.

Develop a working knowledge of WM’s fleet and general business applications.

Learn heavy equipment functionality and maintenance care, including actual operation and in‑shop maintenance.

Gaining experience managing site personnel through experiential learning and training.

Understand financial, accounting, and forecasting processes and systems.

Demonstrate a strong commitment to the WM Safety Program and work with Corporate and local safety teams.

Complete required paperwork using fleet maintenance software for vehicle repairs,



parts usage, and repair time accounting.

Participate in worksite meetings, huddles, and area mentor programs.

Perform other duties as assigned, including special projects and interim management assignments.

III. Supervisory Responsibilities
This position may include periodic leadership and management responsibilities throughout the program.

IV. Qualifications

Education and Experience: Bachelor’s Degree (accredited) or High School Diploma/ GED (accredited) plus three (3) years of relevant fleet maintenance work experience on heavy trucks/equipment. Four (4) years of supervisory/leadership experience in fleet maintenance operations is required.

Preferred Certificates, Licenses, or Registrations: Valid Driver’s License, ASE Certifications.

Other Knowledge, Skills or Abilities:

Willingness to relocate within an assigned geographic area at the conclusion of the program.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office.

Willingness to work various hours, weekends, and outdoor or maintenance shop conditions.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Exceptional time management and organizational skills.

Proven problem‑solving and conflict resolution ability.

Diesel or CNG mechanical experience or technical drive.

Strong analytical skills.

Essential Functions, Workplace and Physical Requirements: Field work is core; work may involve exposure to weather and non‑office conditions; ability to work non‑traditional schedules including 12‑hour days, weekends and early starts.

Pay
The expected base pay range for this position across Canada is $84,480 – $111,000.00.
