Position Description
A temporary full‑time (1.0) French Immersion Primary Teacher is required by School District No. 60 (Peace River North) effective September 1, 2026 to June 30, 2027. The assignment will be at École Central Elementary School.
École Central Elementary School of the Arts is a K–6 Fine Arts French Immersion school located in downtown Fort St. John, in the Peace River Valley. It offers an early French immersion programme that begins in kindergarten. Fourteen percent of the students are of First Nations ancestry. The school has a staff of 15 teachers, 8 support workers, a principal, a .3 vice‑principal, a reading‑support teacher and a .4 librarian.
Qualifications and Experience
Valid BC Ministry of Education Teaching Certificate (or eligible).
Participation in a French fluency assessment (written & oral).
Proficiency in written and oral communication in French.
Willingness to interview in French with the District’s French Language Coordinator.
Practicum work and teaching experience in French or French Immersion at the intermediate level.
Demonstrated knowledge of a balanced literacy program, including guided reading and assessment.
Ability to teach the identified subjects at the elementary level.
Experience with universal design and differentiation to meet diverse student needs.
Excellent interpersonal, communications, collaboration and organization skills.
Training or experience in Social Emotional Learning and ability to create a positive classroom community.
Strong belief in the philosophy of inclusion and the potential of all students.
Understanding of the BC Curriculum and ability to plan for short‑term and long‑term objectives.
Willingness to work collaboratively with staff.
Use of proactive classroom management practices that maintain student dignity.
Use of assessment practices that promote learning and maintain dignity.
Teaching experience or coursework in a minimum of one Fine Arts strand.
Integration of computer technology into the learning environment.
Commitment to collaborate on the school plan and participate in professional development.
Application Requirements
Three (3) references.
Verification of qualifications (BC Teacher Certificate).
Compensation
$2,000 relocation allowance for teachers from BC, AB, and Yukon and up to $4,000 for teachers from other areas.
$3,500 recruitment allowance (paid over 10 months of the school year, based on the FTE).
Salary per the collective agreement (current grid: $72,720 – $118,770).
Advantages per the collective agreement, including option to enrol in medical, dental, extended health, and group life insurance (employer‑paid based on FTE).
