IMS Inspector – Mechanical, Codes and Standards (Regular/full-time, Winnipeg, MB)

Responsibilities

Report to the Program Manager, exercising authority to ensure compliance with the Department of Labour Act, Steam and Pressure Plants Act, Power Engineers Act, and Gas and Oil Burner Act.

Exercise authority to ensure compliance with applicable acts, supporting codes, and standards.

Qualifications
Essential

3rd Class Power Engineer in Manitoba or higher, or degree in Mechanical Engineering and current registration with Engineers Geoscientists Manitoba, or Mechanical Engineer‑in‑Training (EIT), or certification as a Mechanical Engineering Technologist (CET); equivalent education, training and experience may be considered.

Experience in operation, installation, service, maintenance and/or in‑service inspection of boilers and pressure vessels.

Knowledge of and ability to interpret and apply acts, regulations, codes and standards governing safe installation and operation of boilers and pressure vessels in Manitoba and Canada.

Strong interpersonal skills for fostering effective working relationships.

Strong verbal communication skills to explain technical information clearly.

Effective written communication skills to author inspection and/or investigation reports.

Decision‑making skills, exercising judgment and identifying solutions to problems.

Strong organizational and time‑management skills to manage multiple tasks and priorities with tight deadlines.





Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Knowledge of procedures for conducting inspections and/or investigation techniques.

Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, Outlook) or equivalent software.

Desired

Certification as an "AI" or "IS" Commission with "B" or "R" endorsements by the National Board of Boiler and Pressure Vessel Inspectors (NBB).

Certification as a commercial and industrial gas fitter in Manitoba.

Conditions of Employment

Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.

Must provide satisfactory Criminal Record Check and Child Abuse Registry Check.

Must possess a valid Class 5 Manitoba driver’s license (or equivalent) and maintain a satisfactory driver’s abstract.

Must be able to travel throughout Manitoba and internationally for extended periods.

Must be able to perform the physical duties of the position, including lifting heavy objects, kneeling, standing, climbing stairs and ladders, working at heights and in confined spaces, in various temperatures.

Must be able to wear all required personal protective equipment.

Must be able to work evenings and weekends as necessary.
