We are seeking a highly organized and proactive Facility Manager to oversee the day-to-day operations of LabStore , a Core Research Platform in the Faculty of Science. This role is ideal for a collaborative leader with strong operational, financial, and stakeholder management skills, and a commitment to delivering exceptional service.
The successful candidate will manage facility operations, ensure compliance with safety and regulatory standards, support financial planning, and foster solid relationships with researchers, staff, students, and external partners.
Key Responsibilities
General Management & Planning
Lead the daily operations of LabStore, ensuring efficient workflows and high-quality service delivery
Develop, implement, and continuously improve operational policies, procedures, and service standards
Oversee inventory management, procurement, and vendor relationships, including negotiating pricing and service agreements
Ensure compliance with institutional, safety, and regulatory requirements, including hazardous materials handling
Maintain accurate records across operational, inventory, and financial systems
Manage the facility website and communications, including user engagement and outreach
Identify opportunities to enhance efficiency, service quality, and user experience through performance monitoring and continuous improvement
Analyze and report on financial and operational data to support planning, sustainability assessment, and informed decision-making; collaborate with the Director to support strategic growth and service expansion initiatives
Serve as a primary point of contact for internal and external stakeholders, including researchers, partners, and suppliers
Support collaborations, partnerships,
and revenue-generating opportunities
Coordinate outreach activities, and research-related initiatives; produce and present materials for these initiatives
Manage billing, financial transactions, and reporting using institutional systems
Support budget planning, monitoring, and financial analysis
Prepare project costing, financial summaries, and operational reports
Assist with grant applications, including budgeting, documentation, and submission support
Supervise, train, and support staff, students, and volunteers
Foster a collaborative and high-performing team environment
Plan staffing needs and coordinate schedules to ensure operational continuity
Qualifications
Education
Undergraduate degree in a relevant field (Chemistry or related field required)
Experience
Minimum 1 year of experience in project management, operations, or facility coordination
Experience in financial management, budgeting, and reporting
Experience supervising staff or leading teams
Experience working in environments requiring multitasking and adaptability
Strong organizational and planning skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage diverse stakeholders
Demonstrated leadership and team development capabilities
Strong analytical,
problem-solving, and decision-making skills
Financial acumen, including budgeting, cost analysis, and vendor negotiation
Ability to work independently and take initiative in a fast-paced environment
Preferred / Asset Qualifications
Knowledge of laboratory operations, scientific products, and chemical handling regulations [NJ2.1][DD2.2]
Familiarity with institutional systems (e.g., Mosaic, MacBuy, MacBill)
Experience in marketing and outreach activities
Understanding of retail or inventory management principles
Experience managing online content or digital platforms
Additional Information
This role may require occasional evening or weekend work for events
Some physical activity may be required, including assisting with inventory or materials handling

Pay Transparency Statement
This job is currently under review and is anticipated to align with Band J. Current band J salary range: $69,652 - $104,478 (annual); hiring range: $69,652 - $91,331.19. The posted hiring range represents McMaster's typical hiring range for this position. Actual starting salary will depend on factors such as relevant experience, qualifications, internal equity, and market conditions.
Individuals with extensive experience, deep specialized expertise, and/or those who can demonstrate exceptional past performance, as applicable, may be hired at a higher rate within the full range, in accordance with the University compensation policies.
