An externship experience at an NVA hospital will give students the unique chance to understand the day-to-day operations of the practice, and to gain valuable hands‑on clinical experience. At the Chatham-Kent Veterinary Hospital Group (locally known as CK Vets), veterinary students seeking an externship will find a warm and welcoming environment dedicated to high-quality care for pets. Our team of veterinarians, technicians, and animal care specialists are passionate about preventive care and the latest medical advancements. You'll have the opportunity to work alongside experienced specialists gaining hands‑on experience in diverse cases and advanced procedures, including dentistry, ultrasound, and surgery. Our Practice Locations
Chatham-Kent Veterinary Hospital (Chatham, Ontario)
Blenheim Veterinary Hospital (Blenheim, Ontario)
South Ridge Veterinary Clinic (Ridgetown, Ontario)
Wallaceburg Animal Hospital (Wallaceburg, Ontario)

Responsibilities
Work closely with the supervising veterinarian to gather patient histories, perform physical exams, create treatment plans, diagnostics, dentistry services, observe/assist or perform surgical procedures, and manage medical treatment of patients.
Practice communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients.

Most externship experiences range from two to eight weeks depending on student and hospital schedules.

Requirements
4th year or clinic‑year veterinary students.
Students must be in the clinical portion of their education to be eligible for travel/living expense stipend.
