About the Company
Our client is a leading global organisation operating within the education sector. As the business continues to grow, they are looking to appoint a Privacy & Compliance Officer to join their team-oriented global legal and compliance team.
About the Role
This is an exciting chance for a privacy professional who enjoys working across jurisdictions, partnering with stakeholders and helping to embed privacy best practices throughout an international organisation. The role is fully remote; however, candidates must be based in Ontario or British Columbia and be able to travel to either the downtown Toronto or downtown Vancouver office when required.
Responsibilities
Managing and responding to Subject Access Requests (SARs) and other individual rights requests.
Advising internal stakeholders on privacy legislation, with a particular focus on British Columbia's Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA).
Supporting compliance with Canadian privacy legislation and internal privacy policies.
Conducting Privacy Impact Assessments (PIAs) and supporting risk assessments.
Supporting privacy incident and data breach management.
Reviewing contracts and assisting with data processing and information-sharing arrangements.
Maintaining records of processing activities and privacy documentation.
Delivering privacy training and awareness programs across the business.
Monitoring legislative developments and recommending practical improvements.
Working closely with Legal, HR, IT, Security and business stakeholders across multiple jurisdictions.
Qualifications
Experience in a Privacy, Data Protection or Compliance role.
Required Skills
Strong experience managing Subject Access Requests.
Knowledge of British Columbia's Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA). Experience working with BC privacy legislation is highly desirable.
A solid understanding of Canadian privacy legislation and privacy principles.
Experience advising internal stakeholders on privacy and compliance matters.
Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
Robust organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
A proactive and solutions-focused approach.
Preferred Skills
Experience within education, technology or another regulated sector.
Exposure to international privacy frameworks such as GDPR.
Privacy certification such as CIPP/C, CIPP/E or CIPM.
Remote – Ontario or British Columbia
