Key Responsibilities
Perform skilled labour tasks related to civil construction, including trenching, grading, pipe installation, and backfilling
Assist with installation of underground utilities (water, sewer, storm systems)
Set up and use grade stakes, laser levels, and measuring tools
Work alongside equipment operators during excavation and site preparation
Install and compact gravel, asphalt, and other materials
Perform concrete work such as forming, pouring, and finishing (curbs, sidewalks, etc.)
Direct traffic and ensure protected work zones when required
Load, unload, and move materials, tools, and equipment
Conduct site clean-up and maintain a safe, organized work environment
Identify and report hazards, ensuring compliance with safety regulations
Follow project plans, drawings, and supervisor instructions
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent
Proven experience in civil or heavy construction
Knowledge of underground utility installation and roadwork processes
Ability to read and interpret basic construction drawings and grade plans
Valid driver’s license (required; DZ/AZ license is an asset in Ontario)
Skills & Competencies
Robust understanding of civil construction methods and materials
Experience with hand tools, power tools, and small equipment (e.g., plate compactors, cut-off saws)
Ability to work in trenches and around heavy machinery safely, outdoor work in all weather conditions
Physical strength, stamina, and endurance
Attention to detail, especially with grading and measurements, Solid safety awareness
Teamwork and communication skills
Physically demanding tasks, including lifting, digging, and prolonged standing
Exposure to heavy equipment, noise, dust, and potentially hazardous conditions
May require travel to different job sites
