POSITION OVERVIEW

The Globe and Mail is seeking an experienced Editor toleaditsIntelligence Unit, a new editorialinitiativededicated toexamining the major issues shaping Canada’s future.

Theintelligenceunit will pursue a focused set of major national challenges each year, bringing together The Globe's journalism and independent expertise to help Canadians better understand complex topics and explore evidence-based solutions.

Working across the newsroom and beyond, the Editor will recruit and collaborate with leading subject-matter experts from academia, business, public policy, science and civil society, combining outside expertise with The Globe's reporting strengths to produce authoritative, agenda-setting journalism.

Thismanagementposition requires a leader who is comfortable operating at the intersection of journalism, product and audience strategy. The ideal candidate brings a strong track record of editorial leadership, sound judgment on public affairs and the ability to translatecomplexity into compellingstorytelling.

The Intelligence Unit willexecute its coverageacross multiple formats, including live events.Topics could range from housing and productivity to health care, education, demographic change, energy, artificial intelligence and geopolitics.

As Editor, you will define the editorial vision, oversee execution acrossplatformsand lead a small, high-performing team. This is a foundational leadership role with the opportunity to build a distinctive nationalinitiativethat strengthens The Globe's authority,



deepens readerengagementand helps shape conversations about Canada's future.

RESPONSIBILITIES

- Define and execute the editorial vision for the Intelligence Unit.
- Identify and prioritize a focused set of major national issues for investigation each year.
- Build and manage a network of leading external experts, contributors and advisors.
- Lead a multidisciplinary editorial team producing journalism across print, digital, video, audio and live events.
- Commission and oversee deep reporting, analysis and explanatory journalism that examines causes, consequences and potential solutions.
- Work closely with reporters, data journalists, product, audience and design teams to create distinctive editorial experiences.
- Ensure the highest standards of accuracy, fairness and editorial integrity.
- Represent The Globe in public-facing events.

QUALIFICATIONS

- At least five years of editorialleadershipexperience in a national or major newsroom
- Proven leadership experience managing teams and complex projects
- Strong news judgment and deep understanding of Canadian public affairs
- Experience working across multiple formats and platforms
- Ability to synthesize and communicate complex ideas clearly
- Entrepreneurial mindset and comfort building new editorial products

This position is based in the Toronto office and requires a minimum of three days a week in office.

SALARY

The base salary for this role ranges from $120,000 to $140,000 per year. Placement within this range depends on a candidate’s level of experience, technical skills, and alignment with the role’s requirements. Candidates who have been identified as meeting the role’s requirements can expect to be near the midpoint of this range, while the upper end is reserved for those with specialized expertise or a strong track record of success in comparable roles. This role may also be eligible for The Globe’s Annual Incentive Plan, which is based on a combination of company and individual performance.
