Job Summary
Reporting to the Senior Director, Public Affairs, the Communications Specialist supports the development and delivery of high‑quality communications that strengthen adMare’s profile, stakeholder engagement, and presence across Canada’s life sciences ecosystem. This role supports the development of communications strategies, leads execution across digital channels, media relations, and events, and builds the systems and tools that keep the team’s communications work organized, on‑brand, and easy to access. The role also provides support on broader public affairs and government relations initiatives, helping connect adMare’s policy positioning to its broader communications and stakeholder engagement efforts. The Communications Specialist will work collaboratively with internal teams and external partners to advance clear, compelling, and consistent messaging across channels.

Responsibilities

Leads content development for print and digital channels (in both English and French) to support marketing and communications objectives across company creation, talent development and innovation centre program areas, (working with agency support where needed), including: social media (corporate and executive profiles), website, awareness‑building and lead generation campaigns, newsletters, blogs, presentations, brochures Etc.





Manages calendar of internal and external corporate events, providing critical organizational support to maximize participation and objectives, including securing speaking opportunities for organizational leadership, developing supporting speaking notes and presentation materials

Leading implementation of regular digital and in‑person events (e.g. webinars, lunch and learns, networking opportunities, BBQs) to support adMare Innovation Centre tenant retention and attraction

Event planning support for adMare’s Executive Institute and Ascend (talent) programs

Provides project management for communications initiatives, including establishing systems and tools (.e.g. contact management platforms, slide and content libraries, etc.) that enable the team to easily access on‑brand, up‑to‑date materials

Provides support and writes news releases, media advisories, and undertakes proactive media outreach (support from agency)

Supports public affairs and government relations activities, including drafting funding proposals, representing adMare at select external events, and monitoring key policy areas to identify connections to adMare’s work and opportunities to comment or respond in ways that reinforce core messaging and objectives

Manages relationships with external partners such as graphic designers, web providers, printers, event planners etc.

Other related duties as needed.

Experience & Qualifications

Undergraduate degree in a related discipline along with a minimum of five years related corporate communications experience, preferably in a national or multi‑centre organization





Previous experience in a health/life sciences or research/innovation workplace is preferred

Outstanding attention to detail with well‑developed writing and editorial skills

Experience in media relations, including developing media strategies, proactively pitching to media

Strong project management skills, with experience implementing tools and systems (e.g. CRMs, libraries, etc.) that improve team efficiency and brand consistency

Interest and/or experience in public affairs or government relations, including proposal writing, policy monitoring, is an asset

Basic skill and strong eye for quality design and layout

Sound judgment and excellent problem solving and interpersonal capabilities; ability to interact effectively with staff at all levels of the organization as well as with external partners

Advanced capabilities with Microsoft Office and related presentation, design software; strong technical skills related to digital communications

Ability to react quickly to changing needs and multiple priorities; adaptable to a flexible schedule based on multiple time zones/workload demands

Bilingual strongly preferred
