Surveillance Operations Coordinator
The Surveillance Operations Coordinator is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day planning, coordination, and execution of surveillance activities to support community safety, security operations, and organizational objectives. This role ensures that surveillance systems, monitoring protocols, and field operations are effectively managed, compliant with regulations, and aligned with departmental priorities. The coordinator provides leadership and direction to surveillance officers, develops and maintains operational procedures, and ensures accurate documentation and reporting of incidents.
Responsibilities
Operational Coordination: Coordinate daily surveillance operations, including patrol assignments, event security, stationary posts, and special operations.
Maintain schedule and ensure adequate staffing for all shifts.
Support coordination of 24-hour security operations.
Implement new operational directives, protocols, and training updates.
Ensure drone operations comply with Transport Canada regulations (registration tracking and flight logs).
Maintain radio communication standards, call-sign assignments, and dispatch procedures.
Assist in developing operational plans for large events, emergencies, or special deployments.
Incident & Reporting Management: Ensure timely completion and submission of incident reports, daily activity logs, and surveillance documentation.
Review reports for accuracy and follow-up requirements.
Track trends in community safety issues and recommend improved security strategies.
Maintain incident databases and assist with monthly/quarterly reporting to leadership.
Training & Personnel Support: Assist in onboarding new security personnel,
including orientation and field training coordination.
Identify training needs and schedule required certifications.
Ensure surveillance operators are aware of community-sensitive issues.
Support conflict resolution and team communication.
Community & Interagency Collaboration: Maintain positive relationships with WUT departments, WTPS Police, Fire Services, EMS, and local organizations.
Assist leadership in attending community safety meetings, planning sessions, or consultation tables.
Promote community awareness on security initiatives and safety measures.
Collaborate with other agencies and departments in community programming and outreach efforts.
Administrative Duties: Maintain equipment inventory, support fleet scheduling for vehicle maintenance, track operational metrics, and provide administrative support for funding applications and project coordination.
Safety & Compliance: Ensure staff adhere to Wiikwemkoong Security policies, Band policies, provincial regulations, and occupational health and safety requirements. Promote a secure work environment and support incident investigations.
Accountability: Report directly to the Operations Manager – Wiikwemkoong Security and maintain confidentiality of all security information.
Other Duties: Lead and/or assist with all other duties as required.
Requirements
Diploma – High School.
1–3 years of security experience preferred.
Knowledge of Indigenous employment practices and cultural awareness is an asset.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Excellent organizational skills.
Proficiency in MS Office and HRIS systems.
Ability to understand and speak Anishinaabemowin is a definite asset.
Salary: $77,000.00 (Grade 7, Step 1)
