PEACE Counsellor
Temporary Full‑Time Position (until return of incumbent)

The South Okanagan Women in Need Society (SOWINS) is seeking a temporary Full‑Time PEACE Counsellor to join the Counselling team at our Administrative Office.

ABOUT THE SOCIETY
Located in the South Okanagan, SOWINS is a non‑profit society providing protected refuge and community‑based resources for women and children. SOWINS operates transitional and second‑stage housing facilities, including counselling and outreach services. We work from an intersectional feminist philosophy and support trauma‑informed practice and harm reduction models.

ABOUT THE ROLE
The PEACE Counsellor provides psycho‑educational programming, support, education and advocacy for children who have witnessed abuse, and emotional and parenting support to parents. Designs and delivers the PEACE group counselling workshops for children and youth. Services are provided from a feminist and trauma‑based perspective while encompassing the principles of the client‑centered approach.

Schedule: 35 hours per week, Monday – Friday (9:00 am – 4:30 pm).





Union: This position requires union membership, under Health Sciences Association (HSA).

Wage: HSA Grid 13P ($38.48–$49.72) (2024 rates of pay).

Benefits: Provided in accordance with the terms of the Collective Agreement.

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s degree in a related field – human/social services, psychology, or counselling

First Aid & CPR Level C Certificate

Non‑Violent Crisis Intervention Training

Two (2) years recent related counselling experience working with children who have experienced violence or abuse, OR equivalent combination of education, training and experience

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

Vulnerable Sector Criminal Record Check

Ability to work flexible hours and where required, extended hours to meet operational requirements
