A Day in the Life
Reporting to the Maintenance Supervisor, the Maintenance Electrician is responsible for supporting the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of electrical systems and equipment within the Hamilton Crush and Edible Oils facilities. The role is essential for ensuring safe, reliable plant operations while supporting maintenance projects, equipment performance, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Position Details
Permanent full‑time position
Shift work on a rotating schedule; overtime may be required based on operational needs
Unionized position represented by the United Food and Commercial Workers Union (UFCW) Local 175
Hourly rate: $49.99
What You’ll Be Doing
Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on electrical equipment, including conveyors, elevators, pumps, motors, control panels, and process systems
Troubleshoot equipment issues, determine root causes of failures, and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence
Utilize technical documentation, drawings, and maintenance systems to diagnose and repair equipment
Operate forklifts and other material‑handling equipment as required
Execute work in accordance with established safety procedures and company policies
Participate in plant safety initiatives, hazard identification, and continuous improvement activities
Collaborate with maintenance, operations, contractors, and other site personnel to support plant objectives
Participate in an on‑call rotation and respond to after‑hours maintenance requirements as needed
Maintain housekeeping standards within assigned work areas
Support the training and development of new maintenance employees
Demonstrate reliability, initiative, and a commitment to Bunge's Core Values
Perform other duties as assigned
Skills & Experience Requirements
Valid Ontario Certificate of Qualification as a 309A Construction and Maintenance Electrician or 442A Industrial Electrician with Red Seal endorsement
Minimum of five (5) years of industrial electrical experience
Strong knowledge of process automation systems, PLCs, electronic instrumentation, and industrial electrical equipment
Ability to troubleshoot, repair, and maintain electrical and control systems
Ability to read and interpret shop prints, schematics, and engineering drawings
Experience with preventive maintenance programs and electrical testing equipment
Knowledge of predictive maintenance techniques is an asset
Knowledge of HACCP and GMP food safety programs is an asset
Experience with computerized maintenance management systems (e.g., SAP) is an asset
Strong communication and teamwork skills
Ability to multitask and work effectively in a fast‑paced setting
Ability to safely operate a forklift
Physical & Working Conditions
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
Ability to work in environments with extreme temperatures, dust, grease, oil, fumes, and potential electrical hazards
Ability to climb ladders and work at heights
Ability to work in confined spaces when properly permitted and monitored
Ability to walk, stand, stoop, kneel, and perform physical tasks for extended periods
Ability to wear all required PPE, including specialized protective equipment when required
