Overview
Nakiiwin Azheyaaksin Employment Opportunity Elder – Cultural Services (4). Wiikwemkoong Child and Family Services is seeking 2 males and 2 females to fill the position of Cultural Services – Elder. The position will report to the Team Lead and Cultural Services Supervisor. Wiikwemkoong Unceded Territory (WUT) Child and Family Services oversees and advocates for child and family matters by following the principles and ethics of Wiikwemkoong’s G’Chi Naaknigewin, Wiikwemkoong’s Children’s Bill of Rights and Wiikwemkoong Community Standards. This will ensure that services are culturally appropriate to support the community’s children and families in alignment with Anishnaabe values and practices. The Elder is a pivotal role within the Wiikwemkoong Unceded Territory, Child and Family Services program, responsible for providing cultural services and sharing traditional teachings and ceremonies for children, youth families involved with Child and Family Services. In addition, provide cultural services to staff and membership from the Wiikwemkoong Unceded Territory.

Responsibilities

In collaboration with the Cultural Services Program to ensure the Wiikwemkoong Unceded Territory,



Child and Family Services program provides culturally appropriate services.

Provide cultural services and complete ceremonies for children, youth, families and staff for the Wiikwemkoong Unceded Territory.

Integrate cultural knowledge and ceremonies into Wellness Plans for children, youth and families involved within the Child and Family Services program, ensuring a holistic approach to their well-being.

Incorporate and promote Anishinaabe cultural values, beliefs and practices into program delivery.

Ensure confidentiality.

Requirements

Post secondary diploma in Social Services or Native Studies.

Three (3) years’ experience in social service organizations developing cultural programs and services.

Experience working with First Nation’s people, organizations and communities.

Experience providing cultural teachings and facilitating cultural ceremonies.

Ability to speak and understand Anishinaabemowin is a definite asset.

An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Salary & Location
Salary: $70,101.00 Location: In office – Wiikwemkoong
