Job Overview

ILSC Vancouver Juniors Residential Program at UBC is seeking qualified and dynamic ESL Teachers available to work part time in a friendly, fast-paced environment. Our students are ages 10-17. Teachers prepare lessons designed to increase students’ language skills, accuracy and fluency, appropriate to a broad range of situations and needs, and in accordance with the ILSC Curriculum Guidelines and Course Outlines. High quality delivery is expected. This is a part-time, fixed-term position consisting of 15 instructional hours per week.

Role: ILSC ESL Teacher, Residential Juniors Program at UBC

Reports to: Centre Director, ILSC Junior Camp at UBC

Program: ILSC Summer Juniors Residential Program at UBC

Duration: 6 weeks - June 29, 2026 to August 7, 2026 (Pre-Training between June 22, 2026 and June 26, 2026)

Location: Vancouver, BC

Compensation: $32.02 - $34.85 per hour based on qualifications and experience, plus a 25% prep-time premium

Schedule & Hours

- Pre-program staff training: June 22, 2026 to June 26, 2026
- Weekly work schedule: five mornings per week, Monday-Friday, 9:00 AM-12:00 PM (15 hours total)

Job Duties

- Create and deliver lessons that increase students’ language skills, accuracy and fluency, in accordance with the ILSC Curriculum Guidelines and Course Outlines.
- Teach 15 hours of English lessons over a five-day week (Monday-Friday mornings 9:00 AM-12:00 PM).
- Elicit students’ interests and language needs in an organized way.
- Prepare lessons using recommended resource materials or substitute own resources in consultation with the Centre Director.
- Create an atmosphere that encourages all students equally in self-expression, self-reflection, cooperation and leadership.
- Evaluate student progress and complete academic records as required by the Centre Director (attendance, student reports, progress reports).
- Co-operate with the Centre Director and, on occasion, with third-party agents, colleagues from language agencies,



and accrediting inspectors in the observation and evaluation of lessons.
- Assist with the welcome, induction and testing of students on the first morning of class.
- Attend staff meetings for briefing and discussion of academic and welfare matters.

Teaching Methodology

- Build students’ vocabulary acquisition for formal and informal situations (e.g., dialogues, discussion, role-plays, outings).
- Introduce, practice and review language structures (grammar) using a communicative approach.
- Develop communication strategies such as initiating, maintaining, and closing verbal interactions across a wide spectrum of situations drawn from daily life.
- Increase communicative skills through appropriate question and answer techniques, presentations, decision-making, offering feedback to others, analyzing and evaluating situations, negotiating, debating, etc.
- Shape pronunciation and speech production toward natural English and support and encourage students to self-correct.
- Evaluate and offer feedback to students in ways that increase their self-confidence in using English.
- Incorporate social media and plan age-appropriate language learning activities to engage and motivate students.
- Other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience Required

- Completed Bachelor’s degree.
- Completed TESL certificate recognized by TESL Canada (or equivalent such as CELTA).
- Experience teaching and working with students aged 10-17 years old.
- Must be legally eligible to work in Canada without any restriction to work in childcare, primary/secondary school teaching, or health service field occupations.
