This role involves advanced technical expertise and/or supervisory responsibilities in support of multifaceted applied research initiatives. The position requires performing highly complex technical tasks within technological, informational, or scientific domains. Projects are frequently multi‑disciplinary or composed of several integrated technical components.
Employees exercise substantial independent judgment in planning, executing, and completing assignments aligned with research objectives. They communicate project scope, methodologies, proposals, and outcomes to both internal and external stakeholders. Work is conducted with minimal supervision, with managerial input required only in cases involving unusual or unprecedented challenges. Final deliverables are assessed for completeness, alignment with objectives, and conformance to relevant guidelines, policies, and budgets.
The role typically includes supervision of a small team of technical staff engaged in complex applied research work or a larger team of technicians completing assignments of lesser complexity. Supervisory duties may also extend to contractors and external personnel to ensure quality, coordination, and compliance across project activities.
Key Responsibilities Conduct complex data analysis
Lead the writing of proposals, technical documents, and project reports.
Prepare and deliver presentations; lead meetings with internal and external stakeholders.
Assign work to subordinates and delegate tasks based on project needs.
Review, monitor, and evaluate the work of technical staff and technicians.
Provide overall direction to internal and external professional teams.
Apply advanced problem‑solving skills and engage subject‑matter experts as required.
Liaise with clients, suppliers, contractors, and NAIT personnel to ensure work is completed according to schedule and within defined scope.
Skills & Abilities Thorough knowledge of applicable policies, standards, regulations, and organizational guidelines.
Extensive knowledge of technical terminology, methods, and procedures related to the assigned area of work.
Strong understanding of the materials, tools, and equipment relevant to the area of specialization.
Proficiency with relevant computer applications, software, and analytical tools.
Thorough knowledge of data analysis techniques, research methodologies, and data interpretation.
Ability to supervise, coach, and coordinate the activities of technical staff, technicians, and contractors.
Strong communication skills, including the ability to prepare reports, proposals, and presentations.
Ability to create and interpret plans, specifications, and technical diagrams.
Ability to work with highly detailed information and manage large volumes of data.
Ability to understand, follow, and execute oral and written instructions effectively.
Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent
Diploma in a related field
Professional designation in related field, e.g. CET, P. Tech, P. Biol, P. Ag, P. Chem
5 years of related experience is required

Classification – Research Technologist IV This position is covered by the Alberta Union of Provincial Employees (AUPE) Collective Agreement.
Remuneration Refer to salary range noted on this posting, plus a comprehensive benefits package.
The compensation range for this job posting is : $74,019.38 - $99,540.46
