Construction Manager – Arctic Over the Horizon Radar Project

About the Chance
Join Aecon's Civil team in leading a major federal initiative that supports Canada’s national defence infrastructure. As Construction Manager, you will coordinate construction activities, provide strategic leadership across planning, scheduling, budgeting, procurement and workforce allocation, and ensure compliance with safety, quality, labour relations and mandatory training requirements.

Key Responsibilities

Support project execution, including developing a construction plan and strategy that achieves project goals cost‑effectively and on time.

Collaborate with the larger project team to deliver the project safely, efficiently and successfully.

Maintain positive relationships and culture with clients, subcontractors, internal staff, stakeholders, union representatives and regulatory bodies.

Drive an inclusive culture, lead, train and mentor staff, and implement succession and performance improvement plans.

Plan and implement construction schedules, milestones and manpower requirements, ensuring staff, materials and equipment availability.

Identify and resolve risks to maintain timely and cost‑effective construction.

Understand and manage prime contracts and subcontracts, communicate changes in scope and provide input on procurement activities.

Review design compliance with construction engineering principles, standards, contract obligations and specifications.

Resolve construction issues and advise design, technical, engineering, risk, cost and scheduling teams.

Coordinate traffic requirements, permits and mandatory field logs, and liaise with permitting agencies.

Support resolution of labour disputes through collaboration with EPSCA and the Aecon Labour Relations Manager.

Required Qualifications

Minimum 15 years of relevant construction experience managing traffic, permitting, environmental and quality teams.

Must hold a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) or Certified Engineering Technologist (CET) designation.

Experience in trades union relations management and understanding of applicable union agreements.

Strong interpersonal, negotiation and communication skills for liaising with agencies, government bodies and stakeholders.

Excellent analytical and organisational skills.

Comprehensive knowledge of construction aspects such as equipment, methods, trade agreements, engineering, cost control, traffic, environmental, scheduling and safety requirements.

Valid driver’s licence.

Availability to work on site 5 days per week.

Must be willing to travel to different locations as required.

Compensation
Pay range: $175,000 – $200,000. Individual compensation will be determined based on location, education, experience, unique skills, certifications, specialised training and role scope.
