Purpose of position: The role of an analytical chemist at the Calgary Technology Centre is to complete quantitative and qualitative chemical analysis on customer samples that support Brenntag’s business objectives.
Reporting Structure: This position reports directly to the Laboratory Supervisor at the Calgary Technology Centre. There are no direct reports to this position.
Key Accountabilities: Perform all standard quantitative and qualitative analyses assigned to the specific laboratory work area.
Maintain integrity of all standards, calibrations, and instruments used to complete the analytical testing process.
Ensure all proper quality control metrics are met prior to releasing analytical data.
Provide design input into laboratory testing protocols through the selection of appropriate technical, methodologies, and instrumentation.
Maintain standard operation procedures (SOPs) for work station.
Keep accurate records of analyses, calibrations, QC, and maintenance activities, including sample administration and final release of analytical results.
Complete method development and method validation activities as needed.
Establish positive communication and coordination with Laboratory Administration to ensure continuity and flow of samples, results, and reports.
Minimise external laboratory use by sufficient upkeep of analytical equipment.
Complete other tasks and projects as assigned by the Laboratory Supervisor.
Technical Competencies: BSc in Chemistry minimum; MSc or PhD preferred.
Previous experience in analytical chemistry laboratories an asset.
Experience with Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) an asset.
