This role sits within a busy month-end close function supporting a large and growing network of branch offices.
It''s best described as a blend of bookkeeping, accounting technician, and early controllership work - ideal for someone who wants hands-on, high-volume experience and a clear runway to grow.
Key Responsibilities Prepare and process recurring monthly journal entries across a large portfolio of branch locations Complete multiple bank reconciliations throughout the month to keep pace with a high transaction volume Own designated functional areas (e.g., trust accounting, payroll-related entries, or specific reconciliation streams) as part of a small, cross-trained team Review monthly branch results prior to finalization, flagging missed accruals or entry errors Support the month-end close cycle from day 0 through day 10, working within a structured close calendar Partner with branch-level bookkeeping staff to ensure accurate and timely reporting Provide backup coverage across functional areas during team absences Assist with ad hoc reporting and reconciliation requests as the finance team''s needs evolve Contribute to process improvements as the finance function scales alongside the business Collaborate with a broader finance organization that includes FP&A;, corporate finance, and executive finance functions Support year-end audit requests as needed Maintain accurate supporting documentation for all recurring entries and reconciliations What You Bring 1+ years of professional accounting/finance experience (co-op or internship experience considered for more junior candidates) Comfort working with high transaction volumes and tight monthly deadlines Strong Excel skills and general accounting system proficiency Candidates actively pursuing, or who have completed, a CPA designation are encouraged to apply - this role can suit either a career-starter or someone finishing their designation requirements A cooperative mindset and willingness to pitch in outside a narrowly defined scope Comfort with periodic evening/weekend work during peak month-end periods Willingness to work in office in Markham 23 days per week To be eligible for this role, you must be legally eligible to work in Canada.
