Zurich Canada is currently looking for a Senior Underwriter on our Middle Market team to underwrite and grow a portfolio of complex commercial P&C; risks while building strong relationships with our brokers and customers.

This role is open to candidates based in Calgary, Edmonton or Winnipeg.

What you''ll do Underwrite new and renewal commercial P&C; business within your delegated authority, focusing on accounts with higher technical complexity.

Assess and price risks using Zurichs underwriting tools and methodologies, ensuring alignment with underwriting strategy and risk appetite.

Structure coverage, terms and conditions that meet customer needs while achieving profitable growth and portfolio balance.

Proactively build and manage a qualified pipeline of opportunities 90120 days before they go to market.

Develop and maintain strong relationships with assigned brokers and key accounts, acting as a trusted advisor and primary contact.

Participate in broker meetings, marketing activities and presentations to promote Zurichs capabilities and drive new business.

Collaborate closely with internal partners such as claims, risk engineering and other underwriting teams to deliver integrated solutions and cross-sell additional lines of business.

Handle referrals and coordinate on larger or more complex accounts, ensuring consistent application of underwriting standards.

Lead or support short-term projects (typically 39 months) aimed at improving underwriting processes, tools or customer experience.





Share technical expertise and provide guidance to less experienced underwriters, contributing to a culture of learning and continuous improvement.

Job Qualifications - What you bring to the table Required: High School Diploma or equivalent and 3 or more years of experience in the Underwriting or Market Facing area. OR High School Diploma or equivalent and 6 or more years of experience in the Claims or Underwriting Support area. OR Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice including an Associate Degree and 1 or more years of experience in the Underwriting or Market Facing area. OR Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice including an Associate Degree and 4 or more years of experience in the Claims or Underwriting Support area. AND Knowledge of line(s) of business and the legal and regulatory guidelines.

Knowledge of time restraints for quotes on new and renewal business.

Experience with Microsoft Office.

Preferred Qualifications: Bachelors Degree.

Strong verbal and written communication skills.
