Position Summary The City of Fort Saskatchewan is seeking a detail-oriented and collaborative Financial Accountant to join our Accounting & Reporting team.

Reporting to the Manager, Accounting & Reporting, this position plays a key role in the City''s financial reporting, treasury management, grant administration, and year-end audit processes.

The Financial Accountant works closely with departments across the organization to support informed decision making through accurate financial reporting, analysis, and strong internal controls.

Responsibilities Include, but are not limited to: Prepare monthly, interim, and annual financial statements and supporting schedules.

Prepare complex journal entries and balance sheet reconciliations.

Support annual external audits through the preparation of audit-ready working papers.

Assist with treasury activities including cash flow monitoring, cash transfers, and investment reporting.

Recommend and implement improvements to accounting policies, procedures and financial controls in the spirit of continuous improvement.

Analyze financial data and provide recommendations to management and operational departments.

Participate in financial system improvements and ERP-related initiatives.

Qualifications Include, but are not limited to: Bachelors degree in accounting, finance or a related field. CPA candidate or CPA designation preferred.

Minimum 3 years intermediate accounting experience.

Intermediate skills working with financial systems.

Experience in public sector accounting within a municipal or local government setting, including audit working papers, year-end schedules, multi-account reconciliations, grant-funded reporting, and PSAS-compliant reconciliation processes, is considered an asset.

Extensive working knowledge of Microsoft 365, including Excel, Word, Power

Point and Outlook is required.

Experience with financial software, including Microsoft Dynamics Great Plains, City Wide Asset Manager, project portfolio management software, Intelli





Leisure Point of Sale, Sharepoint, Laserfiche, and FMW Web are considered assets.

Key Skills and Abilities: Excellent verbal and written communication skills to ensure clear, concise, and accurate recommendations and information are provided to other departments.

Ability to manage sensitive issues effectively.

Strong strategic thinking and analytical skills to perform financial analysis, problem solve, make recommendations and prepare financial reports.

Ability to manage multiple projects while meeting tight deadlines.

Strong organizational skills and a positive attitude are essential.
