We are a well-establishednot-for-profit practice in downtown Victoria, with our primary focuson clientcentredcare with atrauma-informedapproach.

The dental hygienist must be culturally and socioeconomically sensitive,willing to learn andcommitted tosupportingothers.

Reporting to the Dental Manager, the Dental Hygienistis responsible forawide range ofduties,includingassessing the status of the teeth and mouth and providing preventative and therapeutic dental hygiene care for teeth and adjacent tissues.

Responsibilities Conductan assessment for each patient.

Providean appropriate treatmentplan based on assessment.

Evaluate treatmentoutcomesandadjust theplan as needed.

Determinethe state of dental health of each patient using current as well as historical medical and dental records, along withclinical observationduring theassessment.

Using the assessment guide,createanappropriate treatmentplanfor each patient.

Clearlyexplain the recommended treatment,including cost(if applicable), time involved, expected outcomes,benefitsandpossible sideeffects.

Adjust theplan withconsultation and agreement of the patient and attendingdentist andimplementthe agreed upon treatment plan.

Evaluate the success or failure of the treatment plan and makenecessaryadjustments asrequiredwith consultation and agreement of the patient and attending dentists.

Key Abilities Exercise independent judgment, discretion, diplomacy, and tact in handling confidential and sensitive matters, particularlywheninteracting with administrative and medical staff.

Communicate effectively with the dental team, medicalprofessionals,and external contacts.





Work with various dental terminologies, billingcodes,and relatedsystems.

Navigatesocial services billing system and an understanding of how to work within the limitations of that system.

Ability to engage in risk management in terms of health andsafepractices.

Demonstrate commitment to ongoing education in the dental field.

Proficient inpaperlesssystems,including Tracker software and CADI digital radiography.

Exhibitstrong analytical and creative problem-solving skillstosupportadministrative and operational improvements.

Maintaindiligence, organization, accuracy, andattention todetail.

Possess basicknowledge of non-profit structure and processes,as well as knowledge of existing social service structures regarding vulnerably housed, marginalized, and at-risk clients.

Synthesize information and dataeffectively,interpretingfindingsinbothwritten and oral formats.

Maintain current knowledge andconsistently applyhigh standardsof infection control and sterilizationpractices.

Qualifications Education Graduation from a recognized Dental Hygiene program.

Experience A minimum of three years experienceina busydental practice.

Experience and/or a good understanding of working with marginalizedpeoplesor people with mental health and/or engaging in substance use isconsidered anasset.

Requirements A member in positive standing with the College of Dental Hygienists of British Columbia.

Successful completion of a Ministry of Public Safety and Solicitor General Criminal Record Check.

Job Information Hourly Wage Rate: $37.89-$47.31,commensuratewith experience.

Work Location: Cool Aid Dental Clinic 713 Johnson St.

Schedule: Monday from 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM Total Weekly Hours: 7.5 Union: Exempt Job Type: Part-Time,Permanent
