Overview
Coordinates Sq'ewlets' K-12 and post- secondary education supports and oversees the community Youth Program (ages 6-12). Main point of contact for students, families, and partners, including FNESC, ISC, School Districts, and post-secondary institutions. Part-time, 3 days/week, with some flexibility for events and program dates.
Responsibilities
Education Program Administration (K-12 & Post-Secondary)
- Administer K-12 Supports for on- reserve students: school supply and student allowances, food support, menstrual product funding.
- Assist students accessing post-secondary funding under the ISC Post- Secondary Student Support Program (PSSSP)
- Process Nominal Roll and Post-Secondary funding applications and provide ongoing student support.
- Represent Sq'ewlets Education Committee and FNESC grant workplans (impacts on Student Learning, Education Governance , Parent Engagement, Parent's Club).
- Coordinate education events such as Back to School and End of Year.
Youth Program
- Supervise the Youth Program (-2- children, ages 6-12), overseeing planning, delivery, and reporting on activities including land-based learning, cultural teachings, arts, storytelling, and physical activity.
- Supervise Camp Leaders/Program Workers, overseeing their day-to-day work, and serve as main contact with the Band Office.
- Track attendance, gather participant feedback, and manage the program budget.
- Oversee Youth Program projects and initiatives, ensuring deliverables and contract deadline are met.
General Administration & Communication
- Respond to inquiries and serve as a point of contact for families, staff, and partners.
- Maintain student, staff, and program records, including the ISC education online portal.
- Prepare correspondence, reports, and program documentation; track budgets, invoices and purchase orders.
- Update policies and procedures ; monitor deadlines and compliance requirements
- Attend education confrences and training as needed; Maintain confidentiality
Qualifications & Skills
Required
- Experience working with indigenous children/youth in a program, recreation, or education setting.
- Knowledge of and respect for Sq'ewlets or Sto:lo / Salish culture and community.
- Strong Organizational, communications, and relationship- building skills.
- Able to supervise staff and work independently or in a small team.
- Comfortable working with people of all ages; solid judgement and work ethic.
- Proficient in MS Office and Outlook.
- Valid First Aid/CPR (or willing to obtain before starting).
- Satisfactory Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening.
- Valid Class 5 Driver's License and reliable vehicle.
- Experience working with or reporting to a Board of Directors or governing body.
- Strategic planning experience, including developing and implementing program or organizational plans.
Preffered
- Post-secondary education in Indigenous Studies, Child & Youth Care, Education, or a related field.
- Experience with grant-funded program delivery and reporting.
- Fluency in Halq'emeylem or Sto:lo language
- Physical ability to participate in and supervise active, outdoor programming with children
