General Labourer – Food Processing (Sugar Refinery)

Job Title: General Labourer
Location: Hamilton, ON
Hours: Rotating continental schedule consisting of 12-hour shifts. Days & Nights
Starting wage: $20.92 per hour

Job Summary

The General Labourer is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and sanitary production setting throughout the facility. This position involves heavy physical labour, industrial cleaning, waste removal, and supporting production teams with housekeeping tasks to ensure compliance with food safety, quality, and workplace safety standards.

Key Responsibilities

- Perform daily cleaning and sanitation of production & warehouse areas
- Sweep, shovel, scrape, mop, and remove buildup, dust, spills, and residue from production areas.
- Operate industrial cleaning equipment such as floor scrubbers & pressure washers.




- Assist with equipment and area cleanouts during production shutdowns and scheduled maintenance activities.
- Remove waste materials and debris from production and warehouse areas.
- Follow proper procedures when handling cleaning materials, equipment, and workplace hazards.
- Follow all company safety policies, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), food safety requirements, and operating procedures.
- Assist other departments as needed to support daily operations.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

- High school diploma or equivalent is considered an asset.
- Previous experience in manufacturing or food processing is an asset but not required.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced production environment.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to food safety and quality.
- Reliable, punctual, and able to work independently or as part of a team.
- Good communication skills.

Working Conditions

- Work performed primarily in production and warehouse areas.
- Physically demanding role requiring regular movement and manual labour.
- Exposure to dust, noise, industrial equipment, and varying temperatures.
