Howard Ave Group Home is a residential group home facility for at risk, Indigenous youth. Our compasionate client centred team is dedicated to empowering and rehabilitating children and youth facing various emotional and behavioral challenges. Our goal is to provide a nurturing setting where children can heal, grow, and thrive. Our programs encompass counseling, education, life skills training, cultural connection and engagement as well as community integration to equip them with the tools they need to overcome adversity and build a brighter future.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Client Supervision: Provide general supervision within the home setting and while out in the community to ensure the safety and wellbeing of clients;

Caregiver: Fulfill the role and responsibilities of a caregiver as set out in a client’s care plan and in accordance with provincial legislation and standards;

Behavior Management: Implement and utilize, on a consistent basis, supports and interventions that help develop positive behaviors in clients and address problematic behaviors.

Support & Mentorship: Act as a positive role model, provide stable companionship and constructive support in all matters personal, health and emotional; and take pro-active and focused actions to support skill development in clients, including daily life skills, emotional regulation, recreational abilities and academic learning.

Cultural Agility: Provide culturally appropriate care. Caregivers will work respectfully, knowledgeably and effectively with the Coast Salish children, families, service providers and community members, and create cultural safety for the clients and other Coast Salish people with whom caregivers come into contact with.

General Health Care:



Supports the mental and physical health of clients based on the direction of health professionals; supports clients to attend appointments (medical, dental, counselling, assessments, etc.), fill client prescriptions and oversee the administering and dispensing of medication;

Food Services: Shops for groceries, prepares or provides nutritious meals for breakfast, lunch and dinner, and snacks with consideration to the personal preferences; plans a 4- week menu; encourages the involvement of clients in meal preparation and clean up; and ensures that all food is safely prepared, stored, served and handled;

Personal Care: Supports clients with personal hygiene, bathing, grooming, dressing and toileting appropriately;

Transportation: Uses organizational vehicles to safely transport clients to and from school, community activities and programs, appointments, family visits, and other outings as the case may be. Ensures vehicles are well maintained and kept clean during each use/shift.

Emergency/Crisis Response: Recognizes and responds appropriately to escalations, crisis and emergency situations, which may include aggressive or violent behaviour by clients and

Clean & Organize: Performs cleanup and sanitization of all areas of the home, including all interior and exterior areas, and keeping the exterior/interior of workplace vehicles clean.

Records Management: Maintains daily logs of clients’ emotional wellbeing, ability to self- regulate in the face of difficult emotions,



recreational and cultural activities, behaviour intervention strategies used, hygiene, family/cultural connections, academic wellbeing, etc.

Compliance: Follows provincial legislation, regulations and standards, and care plans when working with clients.

Administrative Duties: Operates office equipment such as: computers, photocopiers, fax machines and printers; maintains complete records for each client, answers phone and/or in-person inquiries and routes to appropriate staff if required. Responds to routine queries regarding the homes and services provided. Plans appointments and recreational activities.

Trainings: On-going comprehensive training is available to staff.

Other Duties: Performs other related duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS:

A diploma in Child and Youth Care, Social Work, Psychology or related field. Equivalent training and/or experience will be considered.

Experience in a group home setting an asset.

Familiarity with trauma-informed care.

Knowledge of Coast Salish culture, practices, and traditions considered an asset.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

Must possess a working knowledge of Microsoft Office

Must be able to pass a criminal records check and a prior contact check.

Must possess a valid drivers license.
