The Abby Community School Society is a non-profit organization, located in Abbotsford, BC, Canada. The Abby Community School Society is looking for fun and motivated individuals to join their instructing team. We are looking for program instructors who will lead our Afterschool Programs for children. Afterschool programming includes art, sports, education, and recreation.
What is a community school?
It is a designated school facility that is open beyond the traditional school schedule to offer a variety of community learning and recreational opportunities to people of all ages. Community schools are multi-service facilities working in partnership with other community agencies, organizations and individuals to improve the quality of life in the community.
Our Community school will be running classes out of SD34 Abbotsford School sites such as (but not limited to):
- Abbotsford Senior Secondary School
- Abbotsford Middle School
- Eugene Reimer Middle School
- Chief Dan George Middle School
- Dormick Park Elementary
- Alexander Elementary School
- Matsqui Elementary
- Ross Elementary
- Godson Elementary
- Prince Charles Elementary
- Clearbrook Elementary
- Ten-Broeck Elementary
- Terry Fox Elementary
- Centennial Park Elementary
- Harry Sayers Elementary
- Dave Kandal Elementary
- Auguston Elementary
- Aberdeen Elementary
Please note: Successful candidates are expected to work at any locations (schools) listed above and must have a reliable source of transportation.
What is our goal?
To enrich the lives of the people in our community by offering a wide range of cultural, recreational, and educational programs and opportunities.
Applicants will be required to complete a Criminal Record Check. Current First Aid is an asset. Compensation is based on experience and programs that are being led.
Compensation for successful applicants starts at $18.25 per hour for this program.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Responsible for leading and supervising various programs for elementary & middle school aged children (aged 5-14).
- Create an environment that is welcoming, nurturing and genuine for all students and co-workers
- Able to work with other staff as part of a team.
- Provide a secure and welcoming environment for children.
- Enforce health and safety rules and maintain emergency readiness.
- Communicate on a weekly basis with the Program Coordinator regarding student & program progress
- Fill out Incident Reports as necessary.
- Lesson plan for the program (each program is typically 6 weeks in length, once a week).
- For lesson planning purposes, instructors MUST be proficient in Microsoft Word, Google Docs, and Canva for creating lesson templates and planning engaging activities.
- Set up and put away supplies/equipment before and after programs.
- Be honest and hardworking.
- Work scheduled shifts. Arrangements for substitutes must be previously approved by the Program Coordinator. (Scheduled shifts are 2 hours in length, between Monday - Thursday, from 2:15pm - 4:15pm).
- Treat ACSS Staff, School Administration, and students & parents with respect at all times.

Applicants must be legally authorized to work in Canada at the time of application. This role also requires proficiency in English to communicate effectively with students, parents, and School District 34 staff.
Note: Job interviews are held in person at our office, located in Abbotsford, BC, during our office hours (Mon - Thurs, from 9AM to 4PM).
