Cavendish Manor Retirement Residence is seeking a dependable, hands-on Part-Time Maintenance Worker to oversee the day-to-day maintenance and physical operations of our retirement residence.
This role is responsible for ensuring a safe, clean, and well-maintained environment for residents, visitors, and staff while maintaining compliance with the Retirement Homes Act, RHRA requirements, fire safety regulations, and occupational health and safety standards.
The ideal candidate is a proactive problem-solver with strong technical skills, excellent organizational abilities, and a commitment to providing exceptional service in a senior living setting.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Perform general building maintenance including minor plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting, drywall repairs, and basic HVAC troubleshooting.
- Complete preventative maintenance programs for building systems, equipment, resident suites, and common areas.
- Ensure compliance with RHRA standards, Ontario Fire Code, OHSA, public health requirements, and life safety systems.
- Conduct and maintain required maintenance logs, fire safety testing, emergency lighting inspections, water temperature monitoring, and other regulatory documentation.
- Coordinate external contractors for specialized repairs, landscaping, snow removal, and annual inspections.
- Respond promptly to maintenance requests and facility emergencies.
- Maintain maintenance inventories, supplies, and department budgets.
- Support capital improvement projects and identify opportunities to improve building operations and resident safety.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Minimum 3–5 years of building maintenance experience in retirement living, long-term care, healthcare, hospitality, or commercial facilities.
- Strong working knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, electrical, mechanical, and building systems.
- Familiarity with Ontario Fire Code, OHSA, building maintenance standards, and retirement residence regulations is considered a strong asset.
- Excellent troubleshooting, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently while providing exceptional customer service to residents and families.
- Ability to provide a Vulnerable Sector Check and meet immunization requirements where applicable.
- Valid Ontario driver's licence is considered an asset.
- Ability to participate in an on-call rotation for occasional after-hours emergencies.
