Your Opportunity:
The South Health Campus Wellness Centre (WC) is seeking an organized, detail-oriented, & collaborative Assistant who enjoys food, cooking & interacting with people. The Wellness Kitchen in the WC offers food & nutrition skill building classes for patients, community members, & staff. Reporting to the WC manager & working closely with the Teaching Kitchen Coordinator, & WC team, this position helps prepare for & support in-person & online classes taught by dietitians or other healthcare providers. The ideal candidate is comfortable working independently & as part of a team & is committed to maintaining high standards of food safety, cleanliness, & customer service. Responsibilities include maintaining sanitation standards, following protected food handling practices, & preparing ingredients & equipment according to established recipes & program guidelines. Key duties include: Purchasing groceries & kitchen supplies in household quantities from local retail stores. Managing household quantities of food and supplies, including stock rotation & monitoring perishable items. Preparing ingredients for classes (measuring, knife skills, & other basic food preparation tasks). Setting up kitchen equipment & workstations for demonstrations & hands-on classes. Supporting instructors & participants during classes as needed. Packaging, labeling, storing, & organizing leftover food. Cleaning and sanitizing the kitchen, equipment, & work areas after classes. Maintaining a clean, safe, & organized teaching kitchen environment. Assisting with general administrative tasks such as photocopying & laminating as needed. Typical shifts are 4-6 hours,
week days daytime, 1-4 shifts per month.
Description:
As a Food Service I, you will be responsible for performing a variety of routine tasks associated with basic food preparation in accordance with AHS standards and procedures. Your typical duties may include packaging and portioning food items, preparing food according to set guidelines and menus, serving meals to patients and customers and cleaning and sanitizing equipment, dishes, tables and serving areas.

Required Qualifications:
Completion of Grade 10 or equivalent. Physically capable to lift food, supplies and equipment up to 46lbs and must be able to push/pull meal carts up to 250lbs.
This position requires you to walk and stand on your feet for the duration of your shift.
Additional Required Qualifications:
Minimum 1 year full time experience in a food service environment, commercial or household kitchen (other combinations of experience may be considered) within the last 3 years. Familiarity and comfort in a grocery store to efficiently and accurately shop from a list of grocery items and distinguish between a variety of produce or grocery items with minimal direction. Familiarity and comfort in a kitchen environment preparing food ingredients (measuring, knife skills) for multiple recipes, some simple recipe preparation, and utilizing small and large household or commercial appliances (i.e. dishwasher, oven, stove top, microwave). Experience with food inventory management - managing expiration dates, applying FIFO principles, minimizing waste, restocking groceries and supplies. Skill and ability to keep work environments tidy, organized, clean and sanitized as appropriate. Ability to communicate effectively and professionally in English in person, by phone and email. Ability to follow direction from supervisors and manager and contribute as a part of a team. Ability to follow established processes but demonstrate flexibility as required. Functional ability using the following: Outlook (email), Word, MSTeams. Valid driver's license and access to a vehicle for supply shopping.
Preferred Qualifications:
Grade 12 High School Diploma or above. Food Safe Certification or equivalent in Alberta. Completion of WHMIS Training.
