Location: Three Mile Plains District School, Three Mile Plains, NS
Reports To: BAP Coordinator / Executive Director
Employment Type: Part-Time Contract
Contract Term: September 4 – June 26 (School Year)
Hours: Monday–Friday, approximately 2:00 p.m. – 5:30 p.m. (subject to enrollment and school calendar)

Position Summary

Windsor Nursery School is seeking an enthusiastic, caring, and dependable Before & After Program (BAP) Leader to lead our licensed school-age program at Three Mile Plains District School.

The BAP Leader is responsible for creating a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment where children can learn, play, build relationships, and thrive. The successful candidate will lead the daily operation of the program by planning engaging play-based experiences, supervising children and staff, building strong relationships with families, and ensuring the program reflects Windsor Nursery School's values of inclusion, belonging, and positive child guidance.

Responsibilities

As a BAP Leader, you will:

- Provide a safe, caring, and inclusive environment for all children.
- Supervise children at all times while ensuring their health, safety, and well-being.
- Lead the daily operation of the Before & After Program.
- Plan and facilitate engaging indoor and outdoor activities that support children's interests and development.
- Support children's emotional regulation using positive guidance strategies aligned with Windsor Nursery School's Positive Child Guidance Policy.
- Build positive, respectful relationships with children, families, school staff, and colleagues.
- Mentor and support BAP Support Staff in daily program operations.
- Create and maintain an inviting, organized, and stimulating learning environment.




- Communicate effectively regarding children's needs, program updates, incidents, and any concerns.
- Maintain professionalism, confidentiality, flexibility, and a positive attitude.
- Participate in required professional development, staff meetings, and training opportunities.
- Ensure program documentation, attendance records, and daily responsibilities are completed accurately.
- Carry out additional duties as assigned by the BAP Coordinator or Executive Director.

Qualifications

The successful candidate will possess:

- Experience working with school-aged children in childcare, recreation, education, or a related field.
- Previous leadership or supervisory experience is considered an asset.
- Post-secondary education in Early Childhood Education, Child and Youth Care, Behavioural Science, Recreation, Community Services, or a related discipline is considered an asset.
- Current Standard First Aid & CPR Certification.
- Current Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Check.
- Current Child Abuse Registry Check.
- Robust communication, organizational, and leadership skills.
- Willingness to participate in required professional development and ongoing training.

Physical Requirements

This position requires the ability to:

- Stand, walk, bend, crouch, kneel, and move throughout the program.
- Participate in active indoor and outdoor play.
- Supervise children during physical activities, walks, and gym programming.
- Lift, carry, and organize program equipment and supplies as required.
- Respond quickly to children's needs and changing situations.
- Perform light to moderate physical duties throughout each shift.

Working Conditions

The successful candidate will work in Windsor Nursery School's licensed Before & After Program located at Three Mile Plains District School. Programming takes place in classrooms, the gymnasium, outdoor play spaces, and other approved school environments.

This is a part-time contract position running from September 4 through June 26, following the public school calendar. Hours are approximately 2:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, and are subject to enrollment and operational needs.
