SaveTheLaSalle is a registered charity in Kirkland Lake, Ontario.
We are a charitable organization devoted to the full restoration of the historic 1939 Streamline Moderne Art Deco LaSalle Theatre – one of only 6 of this type of theatre left in Canada.
Managing Artistic Director Michael Rawley has also created LaSalle Theatrical Productions which is devoted to mentoring and training young (and not so young) theatre artists in the community and catchment area. He has produced over 40 productions since 2013.
We have received funding from the NOHFC to hire and mentor an Artistic Director Associate. The position will last one year. Full time.
The successful candidate will work alongside Managing Artistic Director Michael Rawley and will learn all the skills required to become a viable Canadian Artistic Director. The training will involve season selection, season themes, PR, set design and costume design, which will prepare the candidate for a successful future as an Artistic Director.
A grounding in lighting and sound would be beneficial as some of our students have a passion for technical theatre and backstage crew.
Some choreography experience and/or musical direction experience would also be beneficial as we do musicals as part of our seasons.
As our theatre evolved organically over time to be a theatre where we work with children primarily,
experience working in the school system and/or working with children would be a bonus.
In addition, the candidate will be part of the Student Advisory Committee on the Charity’s Board of Directors. This will give the candidate experience in working with Boards.
The candidate will also take part in fundraising initiatives because this is a very important part of successfully running a theatre.
Preference will be given to local candidates as well as the catchment area and the North. Our area is a very underserved area and this is a unique opportunity for someone in the North and/or NorthEastern Ontario.
The successful candidate will have the opportunity to helm their own production. This is to be chosen, approved and confirmed with the Managing Artistic Director.
The candidate must be willing to relocate to Kirkland Lake for the duration of the contract.
Start of the contract will be late August – early September.
