Set up, program/teach, and operate robotic welding cells to produce high-quality welds on production components. Ensure safety, quality, and throughput while troubleshooting equipment and improving processes.
Key Responsibilities
- Load/unload parts, clamp in fixtures, select/call correct robot program, and run production cycles.
- Teach/modify robot paths, torch angles, and weave schedules; set TCP/tool & user frames (programmer track).
- Set and verify weld parameters (voltage, WFS, travel speed, gas flow) per WPS; perform first-article and in-process checks.
- Read blueprints and weld symbols; verify dimensions and weld size using gauges, calipers, and visual standards (AWS/CWB).
- Changeover tooling/fixtures; perform torch maintenance (tip/nozzle/liner), wire changes, and basic PM.
- Diagnose and correct faults (arc start, burnback, collision, porosity, spatter) and escalate as needed.
- Maintain 5S, follow LOTO and guarding procedures, and complete production/quality documentation.
- Contribute to CI initiatives targeting cycle time, FPY, scrap, and OEE.
Qualifications
- 3+ years on robotic GMAW cells (Fanuc/ABB/Yaskawa/KUKA). TIG or spot welding experience is an asset.
- Proficient with teach pendants (e.g., Fanuc TP, ABB RAPID, Yaskawa INFORM, KUKA KRL); offline programming (RoboGuide/RobotStudio/DTPS) is a plus.
- Solid understanding of weld processes, metallurgy basics, fixtures, and heat input/distortion control.
- Able to interpret blueprints, GD&T; basics, and WPS requirements.
- Comfortable with basic PLC/HMI interactions for cell operation and fault recovery.
- Solid troubleshooting, attention to detail, and documentation habits; able to work independently or in a team.
Certifications (Assets)
- CWB/AWS welder ticket; robot brand programming certs.
- Safety: RIA R15.06 / ISO 10218, LOTO.
Physical & Work Conditions
- Stand for extended periods; lift up to 35 50 lbs; wear required PPE.
- Day/afternoon shift; overtime as required.
