An externship experience at an NVA hospital will give students the unique opportunity to understand the day-to-day operations of the practice, and to gain valuable hands-on clinical experience. Village Cat Clinic in Ancaster, Ontario, offers an enriching externship experience for veterinary students passionate about feline medicine. Established in 1995, the clinic is dedicated to providing high-quality, compassionate care tailored to each cat's unique needs. The clinic boasts a team of highly skilled professionals, including a board-certified feline specialist, who stay updated on the latest advancements in feline healthcare. With a strong focus on creating a stress-free environment, the clinic is AAFP Cat Friendly Gold Certified and emphasizes Fear Free practices. Externs at Village Cat Clinic will gain hands-on experience in a variety of services, from laser therapy and nutrition counseling to advanced diagnostics and surgery, all within a supportive and educational setting.
Students will work closely with the supervising veterinarian to gain experience in gathering patient histories, performing physical exams, creation of treatment plans, diagnostics, dentistry services, observing/assisting or performing surgical procedures, and medical management of patients. In addition to practicing their clinical skills, student externs will have the prospect to practice their communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients.
Most externship experiences range from two to eight weeks depending on student and hospital schedules. Students in their 4th or clinical year are encouraged to apply.
