Personal Support Worker - Lyndhurst, Ontario - CAD$125.00/week
Description
About the Client:
We're seeking a compassionate caregiver for an 81-year-old gentleman who spends most of his day in a reclining chair due to limited mobility. He uses a walker but cannot walk far without assistance and requires someone to hold him while taking steps to prevent falls, which have resulted in hospital visits in the past. He's a big sports fan who loves watching Blue Jays games and hockey, and he enjoys socializing with new people. There may be early signs of dementia, so cognitive engagement through conversation and simple questions is significant. He lives at home with his wife, and both he and his family are looking forward to having consistent weekly support.
Responsibilities:
- Provide mobility assistance using a walker, including helping him walk short distances and transferring to a wheelchair when needed
- Assist with toileting and personal hygiene as required
- Reheat prepared meals and ensure he eats at appropriate times
- Help him move from his reclining chair to the table for meals
- Engage him in conversation, ask questions about sports scores and current events to provide cognitive stimulation
- Supervise closely to prevent falls and ensure his safety throughout the visit
- Encourage light exercise and movement within his capabilities
- Provide companionship and social interaction
- Complete detailed visit reports after each shift
What We're Looking For:
- Experience with senior care and mobility assistance, particularly with walkers and wheelchairs
- Strong skills in fall prevention and safety supervision
- Patience and a calm demeanor when working with clients who have limited mobility
- Ability to assist with toileting and personal care with dignity and respect
- Experience or comfort working with clients showing signs of cognitive decline
- Someone who enjoys sports and can engage in meaningful conversation
- Reliable, communicative, and able to bring positive energy to each visit
- English speaking
Schedule:
Once weekly on Tuesdays, approximately 5-6 hours per visit, preferably afternoon to evening hours (flexible between 12:00 PM - 7:00 PM). This is a recurring weekly position providing respite for family caregivers.
