The successful applicant will work in compliance with all relevant and applicable legislation and Hospital Policies and Procedures, will practice the Bluewater Health Standards of Performance Excellence and will fulfill their role within the Attendance Support Program parameters. The successful applicant will also possess effective communication and interpersonal skills, will have the ability to work independently and as part of a team, and will have solid attention to detail and accuracy.

Qualifications:

- Graduate of a recognized university or college program in Therapeutic Recreation required
- Registered with Therapeutic Recreation Ontario as a Professional Member in Good Standing required
- Meet the Therapeutic Recreation Ontario requirements to hold registered R/TRO designation through TRO required
- Successful completion of Geriatric Certificate Program preferred

-GPA® - Gentle Persuasive Approaches in Dementia Care preferred

- DementiAbility Methods: The Montessori Way preferred

Principal Duties:

- Reporting to the Manager, Rehab Therapy Services, the Recreation Therapist assesses and treats assigned patients
- Establishes treatment goals with patient/family
- Selects most appropriate treatment program consistent with patient goals, needs and capabilities




- Assesses the patient's progress and adjusts treatment and recreation therapy programs accordingly
- Teaches the patientfamily skills and techniques required for participation in leisure activities
- Evaluates the patient's progress, attitudes and behaviour related to their rehabilitation potential and established patientfamily goals
- Co-operates and consults with other professional workers who are providing care ensuring a unified approach in the treatment of the patientfamily
- Reports on patient's progress in treatment programs to the patientfamily and other members of the interprofessional team. Participates in patientfamily conferences
- Participates in discharge planning to facilitate continuity of care from hospital to home
