Job Overview We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Support Mentor to join our team and make a meaningful difference in the lives of mothers and children facing mental health challenges, substance use and addiction recovery, and complex life situations.
In this role, you will provide personalized guidance, emotional support, and practical tools to help families build resilience, navigate recovery, and foster a safe, stable home environment. Supporting child care and engaging directly with children at the centre is a central part of this position. Your empathetic, trauma-informed approach will help empower mothers and nurture the well-being and development of their children.
While the primary focus is on holistic family support, child care support, and addiction recovery, experience working alongside individuals with diverse abilities and unique needs is a valuable asset. This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to a compassionate, community-focused organization dedicated to healing, empowerment, and inclusive growth.
Responsibilities
- Assist individuals and families with daily activities, including personal care, dedicated child care, and household tasks, ensuring safety and dignity at all times
- Provide direct child care support, creating a safe, nurturing, and engaging environment for children staying at the facility.
- Provide individualized compassionate support tailored to each person’s needs, preferences, and goals
- Use effective communication skills to engage with clients, children, families, and team members
- Administer medications accurately following prescribed schedules and protocols
- Provide caregiving support that promotes independence while respecting personal boundaries
- Monitor clients’ and children's well-being regularly, including body language and non-verbal cues, noting changes or concerns and reporting them promptly to supervisors or healthcare professionals
- Foster a positive, structured, and motivating environment through active encouragement, patience, and empathy
Requirements
- Experience working in child care, early childhood development, or family support settings is highly preferred
- Experience working with individuals with disabilities or in caregiving roles is highly preferred
- Knowledge of special education and early childhood development principles is a strong asset
- Demonstrated understanding of medication administration procedures in a caregiving context
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build trusting relationships with both adults and children
- Compassionate attitude with a commitment to supporting family stability, independence, and personal growth
- Flexibility to adapt to changing needs and schedules in a energetic, child-friendly workplace
This role offers the chance to develop your skills while making a lasting impact on the lives of those you serve. We believe that effective support comes from authentic connections. Whether you have professional experience, lived experience in recovery or caregiving, or a combination of both, your unique perspective is valuable to us. Wage is dependent on experience and qualifications.
