Department: Perioperative Services - Operating Room

As an integral member of the Perioperative Services team, the Room Based Attendant performs direct and indirect patient care functions under the direction of a regulated healthcare provider within the surgical portfolio. Roles and responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to the following:

- Perform assigned tasks and duties consistent with the job classification and unit specific assignment as it aligns with standard of work and service
- Responsible for assisting and/or the positioning of patients
- Responsible for the tasks related to environmental services such as Operating Room turnovers between surgical cases
- Responsible for the transporting of patients using a variety of transportation methods
- Responsible for the transporting of specimens to the lab
- Responsible for stocking and restocking of supplies
- Responsible to provide ongoing support to the Perioperative Services team as required

QUALIFICATIONS

Certification/Experience/Knowledge:

- Post-secondary school graduate or equivalent required
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certificate required (recent within the last twelve months)
- Experience in housekeeping techniques required

Skills/Abilities:

- Must be able to meet the physical demands of the position:
- Assist with patient/or equipment transfers to and from wheelchairs, beds or stretchers (up to approximately 28 kg push/pull force)
- Pick up and deliver supplies and equipment (4.0 kg to 8.0 kg push/pull force and 1.0 kg to 12 kg lift/lower force)
- Must have excellent organizational,



communication and interpersonal skills is required
- Must be able to work with minimal supervision is required
- Basic computer knowledge is required
- Ability to be adaptable and adapt quickly to an unpredictable caseload and fast paced environment is required
- Ability to work with a multidisciplinary team is required
- Good attendance and work record required
- Knowledge of medical terminology an asset
- Previous Medical Device Reprocessing Department (MDRD) experience an asset
- Knowledge of Aseptic technique and Infection Prevention and Control an asset
- Must demonstrate commitment to ensure your safety, the safety of fellow workers, patient’s volunteers, and visitors
- Must support and contribute to a culture of safety and prevention of adverse health events in this organization
- Bilingualism (Advanced level English/French) is an asset
