Position Summary
Western Fair District is seeking professional, reliable, and customer-focused Security Officers to join our team. Security Officers play an important role in maintaining a safe, secure, and welcoming environment for patrons, employees, tenants, contractors, and visitors.
Security Officers provide a highly visible security presence, assist with guest services, support life safety functions, respond to incidents, and enforce Western Fair District policies and applicable government regulations.
As a representative of Western Fair District, Security Officers are expected to demonstrate professionalism, integrity, sound judgment, and a commitment to delivering exceptional service while supporting a positive experience for all guests.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as a brand ambassador for Western Fair District by demonstrating professionalism, teamwork, integrity, and commitment to the organization’s mission, values, and objectives.
- Provide assistance, direction, and exceptional customer service to patrons, staff, tenants, and visitors.
- Maintain a visible security presence throughout Western Fair District facilities and event areas.
- Conduct routine patrols of buildings, grounds, and event spaces to prevent and detect security concerns.
- Ensure the security of doors, windows, gates, restricted areas, and property.
- Enforce Western Fair District policies, procedures, and applicable federal and provincial regulations.
- Respond to alarms, disturbances, emergencies, and safety concerns.
- Assist with crowd management, guest interactions, and event security operations.
- Investigate incidents involving theft, property damage, unauthorized persons, safety hazards, and unusual occurrences.
- Utilize security equipment including radios, audio equipment, tablets, mobile devices, and electronic reporting systems.
- Complete accurate incident reports, daily activity reports, and other required documentation in accordance with departmental Standing Orders.
- Maintain records and documentation that may be used as evidence in legal proceedings.
- Contact police, fire, EMS, or other emergency services when required.
- Identify and report equipment issues, maintenance concerns, and workplace hazards.
- Attend departmental meetings, safety training, and professional development sessions as required.
- Maintain all required skilled licenses and certifications, including Security License and other applicable certifications.
- Comply with the Occupational Health and Safety Act, Western Fair District Health and Safety policies, procedures, and all applicable legislation.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Grade 12 diploma combined with a minimum of five (5) years of security experience; or
- Post-secondary education in Law & Security, Police Foundations, or a related field combined with a minimum of two (2) years of related experience.
- Valid Ontario Security Guard License in good standing.
- Ability to obtain and maintain an AGCO License.
- Valid First Aid and CPR certification.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Exceptional customer service skills with the ability to interact professionally with patrons, employees, and stakeholders.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to provide clear information, direction, and assistance to guests.
- Strong judgment, decision-making, and conflict-resolution skills.
- Ability to complete accurate reports and documentation.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Previous experience in event security, hospitality, emergency services, or a public-facing security environment is considered an asset.
Working Conditions
- This is a physically demanding position requiring extended periods of standing, walking, and routine foot patrols.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
- Exposure to indoor and outdoor environments and varying weather conditions.
- This position requires a rotating 24/7 shift schedule over a four-week rotation.
- Availability is required for evenings, overnight shifts, weekends, holidays, and major events, including the Annual Western Fair.
- Flexibility is essential due to the nature of live events and community operations.
- Work schedules, wages, benefits, and other terms and conditions of employment are governed by the applicable collective agreement.

Additional Information
This is a part-time role. Because we produce live events and community experiences, flexibility is essential. Evening, overnight, weekend, and holiday shifts may be required, particularly during major events such as the Annual Western Fair.
