Position: Butler

Location: Official Residence of the High Commissioner, Ottawa, Ontario, Canada
Employment Type: Full-Time

About the High Commission

The High Commission of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in Ottawa invites applications from qualified, experienced, and service-oriented individuals for the position of Butler at the Official Residence of the High Commissioner. The successful candidate will provide high-quality household, hospitality, and culinary services, ensuring the residence is maintained to the highest standards for official and diplomatic engagements.

Key Responsibilities

- Provide skilled food and beverage service during official receptions, diplomatic meetings, and private engagements.
- Prepare and serve meals for the High Commissioner, family, and official guests as required.
- Prepare authentic Nigerian cuisine, with demonstrated ability to cook a variety of Yoruba dishes, including traditional soups, stews, rice dishes, and other regional specialties, while also being able to prepare a range of international meals.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and hygienic kitchen in accordance with Canadian food safety standards.
- Plan menus, purchase groceries, and manage food inventories.
- Prepare dining rooms and reception areas in accordance with diplomatic and formal dining protocols.
- Maintain the cleanliness, presentation, and organization of all public and entertainment areas within the residence.
- Care for household linens and garments, including the pressing and proper care of traditional Nigerian attire (such as agbada, bùbá, sokoto, fila, gele, and iro), ensuring they are presented to a high standard.
- Coordinate with other residence staff to ensure efficient household operations.
- Receive and attend to official guests with professionalism and discretion.
- Observe strict confidentiality regarding official matters and activities within the residence.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the High Commissioner or the Head of Chancery.





Qualifications and Experience

Applicants should possess:

- A minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent.
- At least three (3) years of relevant experience in a diplomatic residence, executive household, luxury hospitality establishment, or similar environment.
- Demonstrated experience preparing authentic Nigerian cuisine, including Yoruba dishes, to a high standard.
- Experience in the care, ironing, and presentation of delicate and traditional garments, including traditional Nigerian attire.
- Knowledge of formal dining etiquette, table service, and hospitality standards.
- Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion.
- Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and public holidays when official functions require.
- Legal authorization to work in Canada.

Salary and Benefits

Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience, together with benefits in accordance with the employment policies of the High Commission of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
