About the Role
Game Knight is a board game and TCG shop and cafe. We're looking for a part-time team member with a genuine passion for tabletop gaming, a talent for building community, and the ability to juggle a busy, hands-on shift with ease. This role blends running league events with running the floor of a working cafe - you'll be announcing pairings one moment and firing food orders or pouring drinks the next, often at the same time.
What You'll Do
- Run the floor during our Thursday evening and Sunday sessions, greeting regulars and welcoming newcomers
- Recommend games based on customer interests and introduce them to titles they may not have considered
- Help teach rules, run league/event nights, and get recent players comfortable at the table
- Prepare and serve food and beverages, including alcohol service, while managing the register
- Balance multiple responsibilities at once - hosting an event, taking an order, ringing in a sale - without letting any of it slip
- Stay current on trends in the hobby and share input on what we should stock or run events around
- Use our point-of-sale and inventory software (training provided)
What We're Looking For
- Genuine passion for tabletop gaming - board games, TCGs,
RPGs - and enthusiasm for sharing that with others
- Proven ability to multitask and manage time well in a fast-paced, hands-on environment
- Calm, level-headed approach under pressure - someone who doesn't get overwhelmed when the floor gets busy
- Strong interpersonal skills and comfort engaging with a wide range of customers
- Familiarity with (or eagerness to learn) the games we carry and the broader hobby landscape
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Available Thursday evenings and Sunday afternoons/evenings on a consistent, ongoing basis
- Proficient in English, verbal and written
- Comfortable with basic computer use and learning new software
- Reliable transportation to and from the shop
- Food Service Handling and Smart Serve certification required; if not already certified, must be obtained within the probationary period
- Previous experience as a host, server, cook, or bartender is an asset
Nice to Have
- Experience running or playing in organized play events (tournaments, leagues, demo nights)
- Experience working in a fast-paced food service or hospitality environment
- Familiarity with current TCGs, board game trends, or RPG systems
Pay: From $20.00 per hour
Benefits:
- Casual dress
- On-site parking
Work Location: In person
