Modern Edge Industries Ltd. (MEI) is a boutique metal fabrication and installation company based on Vancouver Island. We operate across two distinct disciplines — high-end architectural metalwork and efficient, high-volume structural steel — giving our team the kind of variety most shops simply can't offer.

THE ROLE

We're looking for an experienced Structural & Architectural Installer to join our field team. This isn't a strictly welding position — we need someone who can work confidently from shop to site, contribute to a crew, and take ownership of installs that range from custom residential gates and staircases to structural steel connections on commercial builds.

A typical day can mean anything from a solo residential install to leading a 3–4 person crew with crane coordination, structural bolt-up, and complex site layout. We cover a wide range of work and move rapid — this role suits someone who likes to stay sharp.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

– Execute structural and architectural steel installations on residential, commercial, and institutional sites

– Work in crews of 1–4 depending on project scope and complexity

– Perform structural bolt-up, welded site connections, and on-site fitting

– Coordinate with crane operators — signalling, rigging, and managing lifts on-site

– Concrete drilling,



anchor installation (including epoxy systems such as Hilti HY200)

– Large-scale site layout using lasers and rotary equipment

– Work at heights safely — ladders, aerial work platforms, scaffolding

– Read and interpret structural drawings and fabrication prints

– Occasional shop fabrication when project flow requires

WHAT YOU BRING

Required:

– Proven experience in structural or architectural metal installation

– Ability to read and work from structural and shop drawings

– Hands-on experience with rigging and crane signalling

– Concrete drilling and anchor/embed installation experience

– Comfortable working at heights — ladders, lifts, elevated platforms

– Valid BC driver's licence

Assets (not required, but will set you apart):

– Red Seal Metal Fabricator or Ironworker certification

– CWB welding certification

– Elevated Work Platform (EWP) or Working at Heights certification

– Rigging or crane signalling ticket

– Experience with both architectural ornamental and structural steel

– Familiarity with Hilti anchor systems and epoxy installations
