After School Care Worker

Casual position, starting September 2026

Reporting to the After School Care & Camps Coordinator, the After School Care Worker will come with a love of children aged 5 – 11 years, the energy and enthusiasm to provide varied and enjoyable activities, and the ability to work with parents and staff in a friendly and effective manner.

The After School Care Worker role supports the After School Care program, as well as some intermittent school day camps.

Work Schedule:

The program operates Monday to Friday between 3:15 pm and 5:30pm. Coverage is also needed during intermittent day camps, and for vacation and sick relief. Ideal candidates would have three days of availability each week, but flexibility exists with this role.

The successful candidate will have the following skills, background and interest:

- Planning activities.
- Set up and clean up.
- Guiding children and assisting in the After School Care program.
- Attend team meetings, staff meetings, and training sessions.
- Ensure all licensing regulations are understood, practiced, and are adhered to.
- Other duties as required.

Qualifications:

- Knowledge of the BC Child Care Licensing Regulations.
- Current resume, cover letter, and two references.
- Must be a minimum of 19 years of age.
- Must meet Island Health licensing requirements for Criminal Record check,



current First Aid and CPR; at least 20 hours of relevant training in either child development, guidance, health and safety or nutrition (must be certified).
- Able to work as an effective team member.
- Able to work with a flexible schedule.
- Experience working with groups of children 5-11 years of age in a childcare/recreational setting.
- Able to work with parents and staff in a friendly and effective manner.

Pay Range:

Hourly range: $20.51 - $30.77

Criminal Record Check:

Must pass and maintain a explicit Solicitor General criminal record check for the purpose of working with children.

Pay: $20.51-$30.77 per hour
