The Food Bank of York Region is a food distribution hub for non-profits that provide food in their programs to the hungry.

We collect and deliver fresh, frozen and dry foods to over 80 community partners across York Region. We regularly collect surplus food from retailers, wholesalers, manufacturers and farmers.

The delivery driver will work with the Logistics Manager and other members of The Food Bank of York Region collection and distribution staff to provide clients with fresh, frozen and non-perishable foods.

This position is part-time, 8 shifts or more per month. Excellent for firefighters.

Renumeration: $24 or $27.17 p/hour

No healthcare benefits.

Job Duties:

- Prepare truck for operation by assisting in and overseeing the loading of the truck, securing of items and verifying the accuracy of shipping papers (if provided)
- Inspect truck tires, lights, brakes, fluids, etc. to ensure secure and cost-effective performance with preventive maintenance in mind.
- Complete MTO inspection forms daily and return the booklet to the office administrator.
- Maintain and monitor truck maintenance and driving record requirements, and maintain required documents for safety, security and quality processes
- Document collection and delivery of products.
- Deliver or collect orders via the most effective route to ensure complete orders are delivered according to established time frames and the Agency’s needs.




- Maintain communication with the Logistics Manager during deliveries to ensure any updated instructions are received
- Record the contact information of community partners managers, lead volunteer or food donor organization
- Follow the regular schedule provided or created by the Logistics Manager.
- Maintain a safe driving record free of violations
- Follow company policies and procedures
- Unload products to the tailgate for our clients and their volunteers.

Job Requirements:

- Able to read a map and accurately plan a route
- Have and maintain a cell phone
- Accuracy and attention to detail
- Professional demeanor
- Capable of following written instructions and documented procedures
- Effective listening, verbal and written communication skills
- Lift/carry/maneuver heavy material or equipment (up to 50 lbs)
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record. Must provide a clean driver’s abstract. Minimum 3 years with a DZ or better license.

Education:

High school diploma/GEDpreferred

Proton Food Handling Course (will train)

Pay: $24.00-$27.17 per hour
