Registered Practical Nurses (RPNs)

Opportunities may be available on days, evenings, nights and weekends, subject to operational needs and collective agreement provisions.

These will be new vacancies.

Compensation: $29.03-33.93 As per the collective agreement

Responsibilities of Registered Practical Nurse (RPN):

· Participates in auditing all aspects of resident care to ensure quality care is delivered to each and every resident by planning, initiating, directing and evaluating resident care.

· Liaises with outside agencies and organizations including other LTC facilities, MOH, medical, diagnostic and pharmacy services.

· Participates in related nursing functions such as but not limited to infection control, restorative care, social work, health records,



nursing library, staff development, skin care, oral and dental care, and ADL's.

· Observes the residents and makes sure work assignments of the RHA are carried out in a safe manner.

· Refers problems requiring medical attention to the RN promptly for assessment and follow-up with the resident's physician for treatment.

· Responsible for giving medication as ordered by the physician.

· Responsible for ensuring that the documentation of resident care is accurate and concise.

· Uses nursing processes to assist in identifying resident needs and developing care plans and to keep care plan updated and current at all times.

· Ensures that workplace incident/accident forms are completed promptly and reported to the RN.

Requirements of Registered Practical Nurse (RPN):

· Current registration as Registered Practical Nurse with the College of Nurses of Ontario in good standing required

· A Nursing diploma from a recognized college

· Medication Administration Course (or equivalent if graduated before 1999)

· Current CPR certification

· Basic Foot Care Course - an asset

· Experience in a Long Term Care setting preferred

· Courses in Gerontology, Palliative Care, skin care and wound management, Alzheimer's and dementia care and psycho-geriatrics - an asset
