Day-to-Day
The Pipelayer will support municipal water and sewer infrastructure projects throughout Alberta, focusing on the removal of existing underground services and installation of recent watermain, sanitary, and storm systems. This individual will work directly in the trench, installing and connecting pipe, ensuring proper grade and elevation, and working closely with Foremen, excavator operators, and labour crews to complete projects safely and efficiently. Responsibilities include preparing trenches for pipe installation, bedding pipe, connecting and sealing joints, backfilling excavations, and working with concrete, PVC, and HDPE pipe. The Pipelayer will routinely work in trench boxes, deep excavations, and varying ground conditions while maintaining a strong commitment to safety, productivity, and quality workmanship.
Must Haves
- 5+ years of experience in underground water and sewer construction or pipe laying
- Experience installing municipal watermain, sanitary sewer, and storm sewer infrastructure
- Ability to shoot grades and work from elevations to ensure proper pipe installation and drainage
- Experience working with concrete, PVC, and HDPE pipe
- Experience working in trench boxes, deep excavations,
and confined work areas
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and blueprints
- Ground Disturbance and CSTS certifications
- Valid Class 5 Driver's Licence with a clean driving record
- Ability to safely work alongside heavy equipment, including excavators and compaction equipment
- Strong work ethic, reliability, and ability to work effectively within a crew environment
Plusses
- Confined Space Certification
- 10+ years of underground utility construction experience
- Experience on municipal water and sewer replacement or rehabilitation projects
- Experience operating construction equipment in support of pipe installation activities
- Strong understanding of trench safety, excavation best practices, and underground utility installation standards
- Previous experience leading or mentoring junior pipelayers and labourers
- Experience working in challenging soil conditions and deep utility excavations
Pay: $36.00-$42.00 per hour
